Mohsin's book is very
engaging from the word go. The monologue keeps you engrossed as
Changez, the protagonist, reveals his internal conflicts about his two
loves - for a lady and for his roots.
The tale traverses
multiple aspects of life in the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
Glimpses of life in Princeton, New York City, a vacation in Greece and
the stage set in Lahore make for exciting contrasts. Changez takes it
to the next level by taking both sides in his observations - of
belonging and of migrating.
In political correctness, it gets
into dark shades of gray when Changez(who's from Pakistan) talks about
his reactions to the US and to India. This was a bit disconcerting. But
then, wouldn't an Indian in the same situation talk similarly about the
US and Pakistan?
It's a gripping tale, hurtling towards an anticipated climax; I read this book within a day, that too mid-week!
