For those of you traveling(especially people with infants and toddlers) and thinking of taking travel insurance, you may want to give Religare a miss. Here is a live example from September 2016 -

I bought Travel Insurance for my Wife and Infant son who were traveling to US for just over 2 months. There were two cases that were claimed for on their return -

a. Traveling to Boston, the Infants Car Seat did not arrive. The report was written in her fathers name as he was traveling with them and luggage was booked in the first passengers name. In US one is not allowed to travel in Cars without infant car seat. So my wife and son had to wait in the airport for a good 4 hours before a temporary car seat could be arranged. The Car Seat was eventually delivered after 7 to 8 days. All documents were submitted but they refused to accept the documents submitted and kept asking for other documents without asking the right questions in order to help. The line of questions is to discourage any payment whatsoever.

b. While traveling back to India, My wife and Infant Son landed in Delhi International Airport and the Baby Stroller was not at the exit of the aircraft. This meant that she had to carry our son through the long walk to immigration and baggage along with some luggage. At the baggage counter she found that the Stroller never left JFK Airport in New York. It did arrive but after over 10 days. Reports were written. All documents were sent to the insurer. The plane landed at 11pm on 19th August. Insurance cover was till end of day 19th August. They conveniently rejected this in the first pass saying it was out of range of policy. If I had the time and energy to file a case in Consumer Court, I would have. But we just don't have time for all this.

So I thought it may benefit people who read this to be very cautious when buying a policy from Religare. Whatever their track record is with others, I had a bad experience with them and will never use them again, nor will I ever recommend them to anyone else. Only I know what difficulty My wife and son have faced in their travel and how Religare has conveniently washed their hands off by saying that the policy had expired, even though our flight landed an hour before the expiry time.

Religare - never again.
