I am a Life Insurance policy holder of Reliance Life Insurance from last 4 years and have been paying the premium regularly through online. I have had a very bad experience in the beginning itself but still I continued it because if I surrender the policy I shall be at a loss.


Recently I had a very bitter and bad experience and therefore, I am constrained  to bring to the notice of general public. The Email sent to the Customer Service is reproduced below for information

Dear Sirs,


This is to bring to your kind information that I am a Life insurance policy holder in the name of Tattamangalam Ganapathy Ramaswamy bearing policy No: 19812248 and client ID 82119046.


I am a senior citizen . The policy is in force since April 2010 I have been making payment of premium payment online. Due to unavoidable circumstances I could not make the premium payment of Rs. 35000/- on the due date which was due in March I received a letter from Reliance Life insurance on 11 May 2015 informing me that the policy is lapsed and I have to make the premium payment of Rs.35258 Accordingly, I made the payment online using ECS service but could not make the payment of interest Rs. 258/- as the system was not updated in Reliance computer and showed the premium only as 35000/- and the system accepted the payment and I got transaction reference. Thereafter, I telephon. Reliance Toll free number 180030XXXXXX informing that I have paid the premium of Rs 35000/- but could not make the interest payment of Rs. 258/- due to the reason stated above.


The telephonic conversation is a recorded conversation and I asked the concerned officer who attended me how would I be able to make the payment of interest? He said I cannot make the payment online again so I have to go to Axis bank or to any of the Reliance Life insurance office. I said I am a senior citizen and I cannot travel so will I be able to make payment in Reliance Outlet situated in Kalyan itself(Suvidha Outlet address was mentioned in the intimation letter) The office replied me that I can make the payment with Suvidha Outlet and they will accept the payment.


Accordingly on 12th instant I visited travelling to Suvidha in hot sun spending 40/- by Auto Riksha and when I reached I found the office closed and on enquiry with the people around they said sometimes the office is closed or it never opens. So I again called Reliance Life toll free number to inform them that Suvidha Outlet office in Kalyan is closed and what is the next alternative. They informed I have to go to Axis bank and they can accept the payment. Again reaching Axis bank they also refused that don't accept payment after due date. So again I called and informed this is the problem and this is not good to harass a senior citizen in this way. Finally I thought to go to Reliance Life insurance company and make the payment and asked to give the address of Ulhasnagar office. The officer said he don't know the address of Ulhasnagar office and disconnected the line. Again I telephoned and this time I asked for Ulhasnagar office address to Mr. Rajendra Mishra who made me wait and gave the address.


What I would like to emphasis here sir, that unnecessary this type of harassment happens when the concerned customer support officer is not able to guide the policy holder saying he don't have address of Ulhasnagar office and without any courtesy disconnected the telephonic conversation. Secondly, in case the policy is lapsed or if the premium is not paid on due date the system should be updated with interest immediately say for the admissible period till the lapsed policy can be revived on payment of premium and interest. This has not been done in Reliance Life system whereby I being a senior citizen was put into mental torture and harassment for no fault.


Please look into this matter and take appropriate action for this type of inefficient customer service on the part of Reliance Life Insurance.


The interest amount was changed and it was informed it would be Rs. 595/-  I accepted to pay later on when I could not locate their Ulhasnagar office I reconfirmed the interest amount at this time it was informed Rs.  510/- and when I finally reached their office the concerned clerk told me to pay Rs. 515/- which I paid and got the receipt.


What is still more surprising is that on 18th instant I received a call from RelianceUlhasnagar office saying that no interest is leviable and they are returning the cheque .


This is the way the customers are harassed for no fault.
