I had been using RIM from the very beginning. First good: Many big corporates make a fine website but they don't update for months. In this respect Reliance is far better than Airtel, Hutch etc. You can view all your bills in reliance site for more than a year old also.
For a month I enjoyed all the local calls free. It was really great. It was a reasonable price - I paid 21k upfront for three years including a good instrument with SMS free. I live in Chennai and I made my son in Delhi buy one when Reliance offerred for 501. This 501 was a fabulous deal which priobably will never happen again. I could talk to my son for 400 minutes in a month.
My daughter in law in Delhi will ring her mother in law in Chennai and ask her a recipe for chutney thanks to RIM (but a small catch - all local calls made will be deducted and after that for STD Rim I had to pay Re 1.90 per min.)
That is if you are in DAP and make 400 local RIM and later 400 STD RIM your bill will be 600 more than 400 STD RIM and later 400 local! In the Ambani restaurant if you eat idli first and then dosa your bill is different than first dosa and idli!I got a RIM for my driver also and it was very convenient.
I got his changed to prepaid and by paying Rs 440 per month local RIM is free (EVEN WHILE ROAMING). It is great. My son got converted to JOY 399 which is very good. Still better is JOY 499 in which you never pay more than Re 1 for outgoing (even while roaming) and incoming while roaming is Re1.
Now I come to bad and ugly things! Reliance does not at all believe that honesty is the best policy. They were going on talking about STD at 10 p per 15 sec. This was never for even a local RIM to RIM.
They said SMS free but made international Rs 3. One good thing I want to share is that international sms _ a few sent by me all reached my son in usa where as many I sent earlier through other service providers did not reach In business you cant make promises which you cant keep.
They employ a very poor quality both in the customer service (*333) and their webworld. My son gave an application to migrate to JOY 399 on April 26 2004. He was wrongly migrated to JOY 149 and had to pay two fat bills in June and July after which he was put in JOY399.
These two bills are still not set right even after a number of complaints on *333 and emails Recently I was sent a mail with my sons application was scanned in which it is written JOY149 in the space ''FOR OFFICE USE ONLY - NOT TO BE FILLED BY CUSTOMER''!. When I pointed out no reply.
My wife also had taken a RIM by paying Rs 3300 and she changed to prepaid and she was told that a around Rs 2600 was in credit and it would be sent soon. Nothing happenned. After several queries she was told that nothing is in her credit.
The ugliest part is that you are not given a copy of any document you sign and also you are not allowed to take out and xerox. I cannot imagine this done by a big corporate!
RIM's prepaid is extremely expensive ( except to those who can make local RIM calls free by paying Rs 440 per month.) I rate the product best below since I get many I want at a lower price than other service providers. It may be the worst for many people
