I am not given to going overboard on criticism.Yet after the horrible experience I had yesterday with Reliance Mobile, I am tempted to remember the above sms which was going around when the service was newly launched.Yes friends - I am talking about the great Dhirubhai Ambani Scheme which so many people have been conned with.But I guess they were asking for it - who gives mobile connection for the price of your weekend dinner !!!!
My brother and my father were two people who were tempted by this scheme and unfortunately have got trapped in it for the last 3 and a half years.Firstly the Nokia phone my brother bought couldnt survive beyond the first year and when I went to the shop to look for alternative models there were very few choices.I did not want him to move out of Nokia but as there were no models I had to choose between LG & Samsung. I chose the LG cameraphone which was the only model available. Choosing the phone was one thing ..changing the number to the new phone was a BIG exercise . The Reliance Web World guy did not know how to change it , he said he needs to know some codeword and then another guy came and then they played around ,joked around while we customers stood there for half an hour.
After the scheme completed 3 years we wanted to change to a monthly billing cycle of 200 Rs from 1000 Rs for my father's mobile . We went to the outlet and changed it .However despite many calls and follow ups , my father still gets 1000 Rs bill month on month.
Since his usage is very less we thought lets surrender this phone itself as Reliance is not changing the billing cycle . And then started the second excruciating experience with these jokers.We went to Reliance Web World and were told that for surrendering phones we have to go to Reliance Web World Express. So we went there. We were told there that surrenders have to be made by calling the call centre- so we called up from there. the call centre guy argued for 15 minutes about why we were surrendering ... and we told him that the usage was not there and we had another phone which we were continuing. So after half an hour there he asked us to fill some forms in Web World Express. We did that and went to surrender the phone on the counter - when we were told that we will get a call in 48 hours after which we could surrender the phone but were aske dto pay 1000 rs which was the rental for that month.
So we waited for the call . It was 1 week, then 2 weeks and No call. So we went to Web World Express and they said to call the call centre. he says that since WE DID NOT SURRENDER the phone we had to pay the proportionate monthly rental for the 2 weeks of some 300 Rs. I reminded him that we were surrendering the phone- HE HAD ASKED US to wait for the call from them. The people in the centre also told him that we had come 2 weeks back. Then he rudely said to them that do not terminate if he does not pay 300 Rs. The manner he said it was as if I was a defaulter and a cheat . It hurt us very much. My brother gave the phone at the desk and came off .
Today we are planning to surrender all our connections in Reliance . The people at the desk, centre are helpful - they are doing the best to help the customer. But unfortunately they do not control things. The whole system has been geared up by those on top so that they could screw the customer as much as you can. And this reminded me of Mere Baap Ka Sapna....Sabka Maal Apna - correctly said!!!!
