I am using Reliance CDMA for 4 years. I was mostly satisfied due to call rates. The coverage was not very good. Now I wanted a better handset and switched to reliance GSM. Other things are more or less the same, but I think to compensate for the dirt cheap tariffs, they have found other ways to milk their customers.

I use my phone just for talk and never subscribe to any value added service.

  1. A few months back I got an SMS saying 'your subscription for some tune service in renewed at Rs 30'. As I had not subscribed to it myself, I called customer care.

Customer care - Sir, our system is showing that it was subscribed from your end. If you don't want it you can cancel it now.

Me - Will I get my money back?

Customer care- No sir, the service was started by you so we can not refund your money.

Me - I didn't start the service.

Customer care - our system is showing that YOU started the service.

Me - OK. STOP IT NOW!

Customer care - would you like the service to be stopped from your end or from our end?

This was a joke! If it is so easily possible for the operator to specify this, how can it be said later that "service was started/stopped by you"?

I realized it was only a waste of time and ended the call, hoping that it was a one-off incident.

  1. This month, I got an SMS saying 'your subscription for voice chat service in renewed at Rs 30'

Needless to say, I never subscribed to it.

same conversation with customer care.

They said you have subscribed to it on March 1, 2010. I checked my cellphone and no such record exists. I didn't get any message in march that the service has been activated. Good strategy, Reliance!

Just activate any VAS for customers who spend a lot on their phone. Don't send SMS for activation, otherwise the customer can easily check his/her call/sms record for that day. Send SMS AFTER renewal of service next month and when he complains, say that you only started the service. 60 bucks earned!
