Pathetic RIM and LG Service

It's a long story. But am sure you 'll enjoy reading it. Go ahead!!!!


I had purchased a Nokia 3125 from RIM local dealer for Rs.5000/-. However, in just 4 days time I saw you newly launched handset LD RD 5340. The handset looked sleeker than the Nokia handset, the resoltion was far better and also the ringtones wre 32 polyphonic as compared to 16 polyphonic in Nokia 3125. Also, as per the features MENTIONED ON THE BOX; the handset had a DYNAMIC R-WORLD. Also, when I read the handset manual, it was mentioned that the handset can store upto 100 brew downloadable ringtones and 50 brew wallpapers So, I decided to purchase that handset. Hence, I exchnaged my Nokia 3125 and got the LG 5340.


Now starting from that day; the series of surprise that I received are mentioned below :




  1. The handset manual said that the handset supports ringtone download; extending the statment by metiioning that the handset can support 100 brew downloadable ringtones. HOWEVER LATER ON I CAME TO KNOW THAT THE HANDSET DOESN'T SUPPORT THE RINGTONES DOWLOAD OPTION (AS MENTION IN THE R-WORLD HANDSET SUPPORT EXCEL SHEET THAT RELIANCE HAS ON THEIR WEBSITE).




  2. It was mentioned on the handset manual that the handset can store 50 brew downloadable wallpapers. HERE AGAIN TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I TRIED TO DOWNLOAD 4th WALLPAPER AFTER DOWLOADING 3 WALLPAPERS, THE HANDSET GAVE ME AN OPTION OF REPLACING ONE OF THE WALLPAPERS MENTIONING THAT THE HANDSET CAN STORE ONLY 3 WALLPAPERS AT A TIME.




  3. Now the best part.... On the handset box, it was mentioned that the handset had DYNAMIC R-WORLD. However, when I went into R-WORLD... IT GAVE ME A MESSAGE THAT THE R-WORLD TARIFF IS GOING TO CHANGE EFFECTIVE 15th SEPT, (THE MESSAGE THAT IS AGE OLD). THERE WERE NO RINGTONES IN R-WORLD. THE WALLPAPERS THAT WERE THERE INTO IT WERE THE SERIES OF WALLPAPERS THAT THE INITIAL RANGE OF RELIANCE HANDSETS HAD. WALLPAPERS OLDER THAN 2 YEARS. IS THIS WHAT THEY CALL DYNAMIC R-WORLD????




  4. How will a normal customer know what is BREW and what is JAVA??? Who would really care about the programming language used in the handset. An end user will only see that wheter he is getting the promised services for what he has paid and will never care about how the same is provided.






My discontent doesn't end here....


After realising that I have been cheated by RELIANCE; I went to the Borivili WebWorld (MUMBAI); wherein I met Mr. Mindo; who seemed to be a responsible person on the web world; to whom I explained the complete issue and asked for a handset replacement or to make arrangement to get the features of ringtones and wallpers onto my LG Handset.


DAY 1 : Mr. Mindo assures gives to me IN WRITING on 16/02/2006, that the ringtones and wallpapers application will be uploded latest by 18/02/2006 ie. within 2 days. I wait for 2 days.


DAY 3 : The ringtones get uploaded in R-World as per the written commitment. However, again to my surprise it doesn't get saved on the handset. It just plays on the handset and when you try to download it you get a message ''YOUR RINGTONE DIRECTORY IS FULL. DELETE SOME RINGTONES FROM YOUR HANDSET'' and it takes you back to the main R-World page.


On the same day I call Mr. MINDO TO THANK HIM FOR KEEPING HIS WORDS AND ALSO INFORMING HIM ABOUT THE RINGTONES NOT GETTING SAVED ON THE HANDSET. Here, MR. MINDO ASKS ME GET THE VERSION OF MY HANDSET UPGRADED.


DAY 5 : I GO TO THE LG SERVICE CENTER TO GET THE HANDSET VERSION UPGRADED AND WHILE I WAS EXPLAINING THE ISSUE TO THE LG SERVICE CENTRE GUY, I NOTICE THAT THE RINGTONES OPTONS HAS ONLY 2 SUB-OPTIONS IN IT ie. SEARCH AND WHAT'S NEW; IN WHICH THE SERACH OPTION DOESN'T WORK. THE LG GUY UPGRADES THE VERSION OF MY HANDSET. HOWEVER, TO MY SURPRISE AGAIN IT'S THE SAME VERSION THAT THE HANDSET PREVIOUSLY HAD... leading to the loss of all the data that was available on the handset due to version upgrade process. When I inform the LG Guy that The Version upgrade hasn;'t resolved my issue, the informs me that my handset doesn't support the ringtones option. GR8.... Isn't it?? He also added that if the ringtones option ever comes on the handset and then the tones do not get saved on the handset; he 'll get the handset replaced for me; and clearly skipped put of the situation by telling me that RELIANCE has cheated me.


Same day I go to meet MR. MINDO to inform him regarding what his misguidance and lack of knowledge has done. HE ASSURES ME THAT HE WILL GET MY HANDSET EXCHANGED and asks me to come the NEXT DAY.


Day 6 : When, I call up Mr. MINDO regarding the confirmation of the replacement of the handset with my old NOKIA 3125. HE says that he cannot exchange tha handset as I have bought the handset from a local dealer and it was the dealers responsibility to inform me the features of the handset. NOW HOW CAN THE DEALER TEL ME THAT WHAT FEATURES WILL: BE UPLOADED ON R-WORLD??? How insensitive and a foolish reason to argue. ALSO, If it would have been a case that the handset keypad is not working or the handset is getting hanged or any other dealer specific handset related issue, I would have definitly gone to the dealer. HOWEVER, I READ IN THE HANDSET BOOKLET THAT THE HANDET SUPPORTED THE ABOVE MENTIONED FEATURES. HENCE I BOUGHT IT. And my issue was not a dealer specific handset related issue and it was very much Reliance Services related issue.


ANY LAYMAN CAN UNDERSTAND THAT.


After going through all this agony and pain; what I least expected from Reliance or LG was KINLDY GET MY HANDSET EXCHANGED and help me keeping my faith in RIM & LG intact; which I have still not lost even after the series of above mentioned events.


I hope I have kept you glued to my review till the very end by mentioning almost all of my surprises and twists and turns and hope you must have enjoyed the ride and my true story.


I am sure you wiuld liek to know hat happened after all this? I BOUGHT A NEW HANDSET... a much better NOKIA 6235.


I HAVE SENT THIS REVEIW AS A MAIL TO RELIANCE CUST. SERVICE and LG. BUT THE ONLY RESPONSE THAT I RECEIVED FROM THEM WERE THEIR STANDARD FORMATTED EMAIL REPLIES; WHICH SERVE NO PURPOSE OF YOURS.


PLEASE UPLOAD THIS REVIEW AS IT 'LL PREVENT 100s OF OTHER CUSTOMERS IN THE MARKET WHO WOULD BE PLANNING TO BUY AN LG5340 and then would be expecting a resolution of their issue after their misguidance.


TAKE MY WORD. IT 'LL BE OF NO USE.
