Yes . I'm aware of the overall 2/5 rating given by MS users to Reliance. Yet I give it a flat 4/5 rating. From my opinion if used accurately Reliance is a very good Cellfone Service Provider. There are quite a lot of reasons why I chose Reliance over others and till date never switched to other service providers.

The CON s First:

  1. 2 yrs ago my roommate used the Night Free Calling service introduced by Reliance considering it a boon for all couples in India. It so happened that in the middle of every interesting conversation with his Girlfriend the call would get disconnected by Reliance once in every 15 min. When he'd try redialing her # getting the call connected was next to impossible due to network congestion!

  2. During weekends it takes really long to talk to a Customer Care Executive. I have faced same problem in Airtel too. Maybe Reliance & Airtel are great places to work as their employees are given OFFs on weekends.

  3. Reliance Handsets . once they they get damaged the repair charges are as much as the handset or even more. With an LG handset costs Rs 1100, the circuit board alone costs Rs 1600! CDMA phones are single chip architecture use-and-throw phones.

  4. Once Reliance upgraded its network - so for one full day no calls could be made or received. What irritated me is that Reliance never informed about this prior to it. I couldn't even call Customer Care for 6 hours!

Now the PRO s:

1. PioneeringService:Recently in a faraway town, I heard a vegetable vendor uneducated by looks saying "Sorry I'd put my mobile on Silent so didn't pick up your call". For a moment I thought, "What a reach Mobile technology has!" What made it happen? Remember a time when incoming calls were charged? During those years, a mobile phone was a status symbol! There were a few Service Providers. No Hutch, Reliance Idea. Suddenly Reliance entered Telecom market and released an LG mobile phone with postpaid connection for only Rs 500 /-. All incoming call charges were barred. There were so many who surrendered their BSNL Landline Phones and bought Reliance. Obviously competitors had to cancel the incoming call rates and slash outgoing rates - it was this that sparked off the revolution. Mobile phone became a part of everyday life surpassing even the Personal Computer which was the greatest technology wonder till then. No Reliance, no Mobile revolution!

2. Network Availability: Once I traveled by bus to a town approx 500 kms from my place. My only companion was my Mobile Phone and the games in it. Unlike a GSM Handset CDMA cannot switch to other operators which means that if Reliance's Network is not available, handset is a dummy. I noticed that other than in only one area which was very very rocky, network was available everywhere. This showed what a reach Reliance network has.

3. Inexpensive Service: I have enjoyed many services of Reliance that are quite inexpensive.

a) Reliance India and World Calling Cards: Three years ago I made STD calls to any network in India @ Rs 1.25(currently Rs 1.10) per minute by topping up up with a Rs 225 card. While it may seem expensive 2day, it was the most inexpensive in those days! I have used similar Global Cards too to make International calls.

b) Tariff Convertor 39: If you top up for Rs 39/- the call rates are reduced as follows:

Local Charges: First 60 sec: Re 1/-. From 61 sec onwards, 50 ps/min(to any number in ur state).

STD Charges: First 60 sec: Re 1.50/- From 61 sec onwards, 50 ps/min(again to any number / network in India . show me another service provider giving such inexpensive service). Owing to these rates I've asked my Grandma and Mom to use Reliance - they are really happy about its services.

-ves aside, Reliance is a good service provider provided we use the Prepaid Mobile services smartly. I heard their GSM service is also doing well in market. I'd recommend Reliance CDMA to all who are looking for a relaible Service Provider allowing users to make inexpensive STD and Local calls.

Conclusion:Karlo Reliance(sorry . Duniya) apni Mutthi mein . lekin Dimaag Se!
