I have had very bad experience using both JioFi devices as well as Reliance Jio connection so far. I stay bit far from a metro city yet feel Jio network is extremely unreliable even in major cities. JioFi devices are made of cheap electronic components sourced from China, so obviously don't last long. So here's my review.
Pros(JioFi-4 & 6 used) -
Cheaper option for internet access on multiple devices
Jio network is very inconsistent. So, check Jio network in your area before buying a JioFi device
One has to install Jio4GVoice App on a phone to use Jio SIM in JioFi for making voice calls. This App is very buggy, but found Voice Quality to be okay if speed is good.
Offers portable internet access option
Cons(JioFi-4 & 6)
Poor quality of electronics / components sourced cheap from China
Build quality average, if used daily 7-8 hours won't last 6+ months 3. The slot to open back-cover is right where the USB charging port is(on JioFi-4), so you will invariably damage this port when you open it(even the first time, to insert Jio SIM). Bad design common to JioFi-2/3/4.
Can’t upgrade firmware of ANY JioFi device as these are custom-made for Reliance Jio and it probably doesn’t include such upgrades from OEMs in China
Jio network reception better on VoLTE-capable phone(2018 models) than on any JioFi device
JioFi device drops Wi-Fi signal randomly when using with phone or laptop / PC. Connecting JioFI-4/6 thru USB cable to laptop better option
Due to poor quality of electronic components inside JioFi, it won’t last even the one year it carries warranty for. If it gets dropped 2–3 times from your desk/table, it will start malfunctioning.
It’s better to buy a budget VoLTE-capable phone and use the Jio SIM in it, and use the phone as a Wi-Fi Hotspot AND make voice calls with much better voice quality than thru any JioFi device
Basically, Reliance Jio has lived up to its reputation and provides cheap product & services, which freeloading Indians would love.
I wish Reliance Jio had invested in good quality portable Wi-Fi routers which would last at least an year(daily use of 7-8 hours) as the device buttons, electronics inside are all of very cheap quality and not built to last. Had shown my JioFi4 at their ASC but their service levels are even worse, so ended up buying a new mid-range VoLTE-capable smartphone and it’s a lot better to use it as a Wi-Fi Hotspot than any JioFi device. Calls thru Jio4GVoice App is often poor too.
