I was so enthu about broadband connection since beginning of 2000, when I used to enquire a lot abt it thru the local cable operator(Rs.25000 installation for cable modem etc and also a min 10 cutomers in your bldg) and DSL(Rs.50,000 installation charge and Rs.2500 monthly), but net access was very costly esp DSL if I rem correct(in Apr01). Finally in Nov 01, I gotta BSES connection. Its been great 1.5 years of excellent service around since I have this connection and its been running smooth. My franchise was good as he himself quoted that to get the work done, they were constantly behind the sleepy BSES contractor workers(yeah the linemen) to get the connection done in time. Yeah its true that originally at startup, I had more than 25 Kbytes/s internet downloads I dint have any prob, although there were come hiccups in betwn. even I sat at night surfing, chatting and working at the sametime. Night time on internet was like pretty cool, as u surf around the world listening to music at your terminal as if travelling in space. In june02 downloading speed was reduced at 12 kB/s in night. Then around in Sept02 things deteriorated like anything and for almost 15 days the link was down. I had to call them up so frequently, only with replies like modem may not be functioning or entire network area is down, wire snapped etc. I was so frustated that during that time I had to inquire Wincable's services, only 2 be known that these guys are more pathetic than any1 else. they had themselves taken a leased line from BSES and shared to many, including some of my society members who r still frustated. I saw a non-functional demo to open hotmail.com but w/o any success. This is where I thought that taking BSES connection was right, only to get response that these guys got a little more professional by reducing downloading speeds to a standard 8 kB/s. No problem since they r the only ones with unlimited downloads with dedicated speed irrespective of number of increasing users at no extra cost and till date its the same. CUSTOMER SUPPORT has been excellent, bcos the guys r really cool n friendly, U will really feel like throwing a party 4 them. A surprise from a Govt controlled subsidiary although now pvt(courtesy Reliance). If Wincable wants to stay around, then it has to improve, perish or wait until In2Cable acquires its network. So as long there is electricity (as Morpheous quotes in Matrix Reloaded) here, BSES (Courtesy Reliance) is here to stay. Only 1 expects that since they will be having their own gateway, next to VSNL, they shud atleast increase downloading speeds. BSES's network area is although limited. Becos Cable network is far widespread since 10 years. In2Cable is also here to stay. DishNet DSL is only good for corporates. If SOHO users want leased lines, then BSES(64/128 Kbps leased line costing Rs.1,00,000) is best or VSNL (Rs.2,00,000) if affordable. Dial-up is soon going to be history. Rest God knows the best. Somebody pls let me know what downloading speed u r getting in InCable/WinCable till now and also if u have 1 or more network neighbourhood areas (IP Networks other than your own IP address i.e. if 202.38.112.14 is your IP address, then 202.38.112.1 to 202.38.112.255 is 1 IP network)

kar lo duniya muthi mein !!! or mitti mein ???

are they telling us or themselves by squeezing us ???

anyways, My observance says that whenever a non-IT manufacturing company ventures out atleast into ISP biz/service,  trouble is bound to occur(except exceptions like TCS etc...) god only knows why ??? but it holds true.

A look @ reliance infocom will reveal so.

Despite the only private company, having laid cables upto 60,000 km across the country(is it true ???) seems they only did it only for their mobile network & the 1st company to have a private ISP gateway apart from VSNL, they havent used it extensively or are reluctant to do so to allocate the spectrum (which is still being unused) for internet purpose.
