Rediff has been one of the first portals that was started in India. And RediffMail happened to be one of the services they started offering around a year back or so.
Rediff has been popular with people because of the speed that it offered. Interface of RediffMail has been very simple and intuitive, with very less amount of images and no frames, which was what made RediffMail fast. One more reason, has been that service is being hosted in India, so if a person accesses RediffMail through an Indian ISP, fewer hops to the RediffMail servers, which was again a faster access.
But the service has its own demerits. It does not have consistency. Sometimes, you experience ghosted mails, that is, you have been sent a mail, but RediffMail may have lost them somewhere. Mails that have been forwarded, and if they contain HTML codes, you can not view them properly.
I have also tried to access my pop3 email accounts using pop-mail facility of Rediffmail, and it has problems, with forwarded mails, which have attached messages.
Overall, a good mailing system, if you wish to have an additional account, for backup or for redirecting all your junk mails when you sign up at various sites, or strictly for sending plain text messages. You can try and work with it's multilingual mailing facility. But, not for serious regular mailing that you wish to undertake. I recommend you to use your ISP's mail for that, or whatever has been your regular mail account with other mailing facilities such as hotmail or Yahoo!.
If you want your account to be safe, ensure that nobody knows your birthdate etc, as it is very easy to crack in to someone's account if you know their personal details. Try it for yourself, try to hack into your account, by choosing forgot password.
