[REC] is a spanish horror movie, and a must watch if u are a fan of horror movies. I am also a fan of horror movies, seen quite many, and this one, definitely, belongs to the BEST class of horror.
I've seen all kinda horror, alien, ghost, monster, animal, alien, etc etc etc. This one also belong to one of these, but I won't tell you what kind of horror this is, as that's the surprise element. And tht's why I liked it so much.
Story

Ángela is a TV reporter who works at night, showcasing the city at night when everyone is asleep. In the movie, she is at a Fire station, interviewing fire fighters, showing how difficult, heroic and unpredictable their life is. Suddenly, the fire team gets a call that an elderly woman is stuck in a building. Ángela, with her cameraman, goes along with the fire team to record how firefighters rescue people.
When they reach the building, the other occupants tell that an elderly woman is shouting and making weird noises in her flat, and looks like she is stuck somewhere and needs help. The fire team, along with a cop, goes to help the woman. Suddlenly she attacks one of the fire team member. Everyone is scared and they try to rescue the fire man, but the lady is not ready to leave him. The cop, in panic, shoots the lady dead. All this is recorded by the TV camera man and constantly commented by Ángela. The team, bring the wounded member back to ground floor and one member stays in the flat to look for other family members. While the team is checking the wounded man, the body of the fire man who was in the flat, falls down and he is dead. Seeing his dead body, everybody is panicked, and they cautiously enter the flat. To everyone's surprise, the body of elderly woman is missing. They trry to leave the building, but find themselves trapped inside as cops and HAZMAT (Hazzardous Material) team has sealed the building and no one is aloowed to leave.
Now, that's just the beginning of the horror the fire team, TV reporter, camerman, building residents are going to face. What has happened to the lady, why HAZMAT team has sealed the building, what is happening - watch the movie and if you jump out of your seat in some scene, you wont be the only one. I jumped out too.:)

The presentation style of movie is like Cloverfield, ie POV(Point of View). You see all the action through the eyes of the cameraman. so, no editing, no slow motion, no spl effects. Just raw fear.
I see around 70-80 horror movies in a year, and if I remember correctly, the last movie which made me jump out of seat was Bhoot, and that was really long time back.
And by the way, [REC] is short for Recording .Its the same blinking text when you record from a handycam.

Hollywood is remaking this film. It is titled as Quarantine. Watch the trailer at https://apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/quarantine/
The worst is, the trailer is total giveaway of the story of REC. If you plan to watch REC, I'd suggest you do not watch the trailer. Rest is up to you:)
