This is a book which transcends the "Romance" genre and is good literature. One almost gets the feeling Manderley is the hero!
I read this book as a teenager and loved it. On reading it again I realized how much I'd missed the first time around. Every page has something that one wants to record. Some remarks of the narrator(who remains nameless and is only known to us as Mrs.de Winter) are so profound - for example, "I could fight against a living woman but I was powerful against the dead one."
This book is a love story and yet a thriller. It is a great book; no wonder it has stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
