Please do not rate this review.. . . . . . Review on Reading Reviews on MouthShut

This is definitely not another review and if you want to read further go on, but do not rate it because it is not a product. I can no longer keep my MOUTHSHUT on one of the biggest fallacies in Mouthshut-Rating Reviews.More than One lakh reviews have gone into the bin and I still find this reading and rating system quite amusing with a very thin line dividing the purpose of ratings, which hardly has gone into the minds of many including yours lovingly me.

Rat a tat Rat a tat Rating:

Keep giving Vu after Vu and do we remember all those revs that we have rated-Lets take my case-1000 + Vu Ratings I have assigned. How many reviews do I still remember and in them how many were really VerrrrrrrrrY useful for me in life as a product reviewand end of the day did I rate for the Product or the writer or the Trusted Friend or the Size of the Rev or the sheer quality of the review.

All these aspects inevitably fall into one’s mind and many a times you would have read a rev just because it is from a Trusted Friend or a Good writer and sometimes we keep reading every rev that goes into the bin. But in any case did you ever think that the particular product of the review is of no concern or use to you, but still you end up having to rate this review. I will give a very typical example like my review on Beijing or on Sania Mirza. I am pretty sure there would have been readers who neither like Tennis nor Mirza and still give a Vu rating and same is the case with China.

*Let’s cut the ambiguity

*To make proper sense of this nonsense, I feel that it is very important to have a proper Rating system in place which I suggest as follows.

*Rating on Usefulness

*Very Useful

Useful

Somewhat useful

Not Useful

*Rating on Quality

*Very Good

Good

Average

Not Good

What I mean by quality is Quality of review and not just information provided on the Product. Many may argue that this is not the purpose of Mouthshut to assess quality of revs and the more important thing is how useful was the rev in assessing a Consumer Product. However I sincerely feel that this is necessary to draw the line between Usefulness of a review and the flair and Beauty of the rev to prevent us rating for wrong reasons all the time.

I would like to give an example of one of my favourite writer’s rev on Dream Bike-She is definitely one of the magical writers on MS with astounding spontaneity. This rev of hers would not have been so very useful to me, but in terms of sheer Beauty of writing-you can’t ask for better. So how do I rate it??

*Words(worth) and Trust(worth)

*I am pretty sure that many of us go by the review content in terms of Number of words, the quality of writing, the formatting, the analysis and clarity. But most often than not we see Readers rating by the size of the rev and simply glancing at the contents which is the biggest idiosyncrasy. If you do not have time for the rev, please take off.

I asked one of my MS freind

Hey , what happenned to you, you are not seen in MS.

Nope, I am just waiting for the contest to end, i have five revs which I will post.

I thought in my mind for a moment that this guy is clever and does not want to get caught in the Tsunami.He is perhaps waiting for the floods to recede.

The Go Goa Contest has brought to light many glitches and glares in the system which has simply resulted in Tsunami of revs which we all know .But what it has done in effect is

·          It has occupied huge content space on MS server.

·          It has diluted the quality of revs to 150 word Reviews with I went with my Bibi and Mausi stuff.

·          It has resulted in Travel Category going into oblivion and when somebody wants to read a genuine rev as a helping guide to Travel, They will not look at MS. Poor Niks Beautiful revs on Rajasthan and Ratna’s on Bhubaneshwar have got washed off in the Tsunami.

·          Some really good reviews which have been written in this period by other writers have also got washed off.

·          Good writers have stopped shattering keys to the dismay of Pras and us.

·          It has also resulted very importantly in all these web pages of revs adding no real commercial value for the management because they would all end up with no real number of hits- a far cry for space occupying advertisers in MS REVS.

·          The Go Lucky Me Lucky contest will kill the purpose of a promotion.

Every child in today’s world is a very good example for the dying reading habits and Ms is also following same lines from Less Writers-More Readers era to More Writers-Less Readers era and this child should understand that it cannot go further without readers.

Trust worthiness is definitely one of the Criteria most often applied for rating revs and what is wrong in that when it is the same people who are reading all the time –Mayank, Nishant, Tenny and Ali then and Santosh, Jaideep , TM. mah e tanam now and when this keeps happening again and again it results in another flood of thoughts which start draining.

·          Are these the only people who are reading the revs on Ms

·          Are we writing for only these few people.

·          What are all those scores of writers doing-reading from somewhere else to write here

·          If it is only the trusted friends for whom our revs are meant for and their revs for your alert list-then why MS for that, keep mailing revs to each other.

My sincere suggestion before close off-Read, Read , Read .This internet has opened up an Ocean of information which was not available during my Schooling days and we had to walk several miles to the Library to get a read of our favourite books.
