Well, one thing I expected out of a Satyan Anthikkad movie was that it would have a strong underlying theme- considering achuvinte amma, manassinakkare etc. But looks like Satyan here tried to concentrate on too many things at a time and ended up creating a typical feel good movie, with nothing underneath.

Rasathanthram tells the story of Premachandran [Mohanlal], a carpenter who had to go to jail as a teenager when his friend ended up killing a goon who grabbed his sister on her way to college. All throughout the first half, Preman bores us stiff with his 'gyaan' on vastu shastra, chanting sanskrit and malayalam slokas. Preman, as usual is an incarnation of all virtues, and leads a group of carpenters including Innocent and Mamukkoya. Preman stays with his dad [Bharat Gopi] away from his brother and sis who have always avoided this 'murderer'

When they go to work in the house of a Contractor Roy, Preman runs into the maid servant of the house, Kanmani who is being ill treated beyond all limits of tolerance by the people there. Preman saves Kanmani and dresses her up as a boy and lets her stay with him. Kanmani falls in love with Preman, but Preman has no such feelings for her. Kanmani gets picked by Police for running off from Roy's place, but Kanmani says she is in love with Preman, and gets exonerated. Till this point the story keeps people riveted, but then Satyan's evidently got drunk/stoned/hit on the head and decided that I'll go and screw this up. The next half of the story proceeds in incoherent threads, and finally everything ends up like we all expect it to be.

The story is nothing but a blend of cliched themes from many other movies. Love for aged parents - manassinakkare, sacrificing brother -from valsalyam to latest vesham, girl dressing up as boy to avoid capture by police - ammayane satyam and so on. I am not daring to say that Satyan did a copy paste, but looks like in an urge to write a commercially hit movie fit for Mohanlal, Satyan missed a few tricks.

You cant blame Lalettan. He has never had anything special to do in the movie. Meera jasmine is good, except that she had better start going easy on hi-cal stuff. Gopi plays one good character that would find a place in the public's heart. The locations are captured beautifully by Azhagappan. Music is nothing special. Over all, it is one of those movies where if you have money and time to waste, you wouldn't regret watching. Definitely not a -skip this and you'll miss one of the best- kind of movie.
