Rangeela – A wonderful Entertainer. Review on Rangeela

Rangeela .. a landmark movie from many people in Industry. For me it was a very good Entertainer.

I am starting the review with its title, I am still searching for the name of the fonts. Those are beautiful. With this unique fonts, RGV had used different colors to symbolize the name of movie. It really looks Rangeela. Wonderful appearance of Title.

About Director :

Rangeela was a first film of RGV with few big stars, which appeals to mass. Till Rangeela, RGV had not used glamour as well. Before Rangeela, he had made some good hindi movies which were appreciated by critics only but they have not done good on Box Office. Rangeela had changed the fate of RGV and his favorite heroine Urmila.. After Rangeela, RGV is having his own place in bollywood.From Rangeela to Sarkar, I enjoyed RGV's movie journey.

About Story :

It is basically story of a middle class girl (Mili).Urmila plays that role. She is working as support dancer in movies. Munna (Aamir Khan) is a next door boy to Mili. They have close friendship. As Munna has no one in his family, he spends good time at Mili's home. Once by co incidence, Mili, gets chance to work with her favorite star is Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff). At the same time, Munna finds that he is in love with Mili but he's too afraid to tell her for fear of rejection. Munna finds taht Mili is a star now. Munna also observes that Mili is making a dream career for her and may get into love with Rajkamal. So he is not able to propose her.

For rest of the part you need to watch movie. I am sure most of you have seen this movie but I am keeping this part suspense for that little segment of MS who have not seen the movie.

About Music :

Do you know it was the first time when A R Rehman got an opportunity to compose music of hindi written songs.Till Rangeela, he had given music to all non hindi films which were later on dubbed to Hindi like Roja. No doubt about the music of the movie. It is really melodious. I love to hear it again and again.

About Songs :

First song is dance sequence ''Rangeela Re'' and that actually set the tone of the movie. You will find a different Urmila. She is looking very beautiful in the songs and for rest of the movie.

Second and third song are good - Hai Rama & Yaaro Sun lo Zara.

Next one is my favorite - ''Kya Kare Kya na kare''.Lyrics of Mehboob are too good. It represents the situation brilliantly, with this I can recall my college day also as I was in SY when this was released, I had a crush and my situation was the same. Thus there is another reason why it is my favorite song.

Next song Tanha Tanha is also super;in which Urmila again look beautiful. Her dance and s*xy moves were really setting the cinema hall on fire during those days as it was the hottest kind of shoot till that day.

Rest of two songs are also pretty cool '' Pyar Ye Jaane Kaisa'' & ''Mangta Hai Kya''. One is another dance sequence with Aamir and Urmila, Second being somewhat sad song.

About Cast :

Let me confess that Rangeela is a movie of Urmila.With Rangeela she entered Ramu Camp and done some very good movies with him later on. Urmila never looked better; her dance is excellent through the movie. She showed her boldness in some of the scenes on the beach, which were the hottest of that time. She had also performed the middle class girl who lateron turns an actress very nicely.

For Aamir Khan, it was an important movie as his last movie Aatank Hi Aatank was a flop. Aamir Khan again proves the talent that he has as an actor. His timing in comedy was terrific. Aamir played a Mumbai tapori with some witty roadside one-liners was a great combination to watch. We still remember few dialogues / scenes of the movie and laugh a lot.

Jackie played good part in the movie. Calm and collective role. It seem that he got an habit of doing a in movie without pairing with any heroine.. 1942-A love story, Pareenda, Devdaas and many more

Conclusion:

This movie is having all Masala in it like love, emotion, drama, comedy (not action). One of the reason for its success was other contemporary dull movies like Gundaraj, Love in Jungle, Oh Darling Yeh Hai India, Guddu, Hulchul, etc. Movie is having excellent choreography, which had earned Filmfare award for Ahmed Khan for ''Rangeela Re''. For me this is a very good entertainer. I love to watch this movie once in 8-10 months.

Other interesting Facts :

Due to some reason, Filmfare Award for Best Actor had been give to Shah Rukh Khan for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995 which was easier role in comparison to Munna's role. From that year Aamir had never looked at Filmfare Award again.

Subhash Ghai had taken the plot for his movie ''Taal'' from this movie. Compare the character and story, almost matching each other.
