Every once in a while, there comes along a movie that redefines cinema as we know it. RDB, though a huge improvement over Aks, is too flawed to become a cult.
Without Rahman’s music, Binod Pradhan’s cinematography, and Prasoon’s lyrics, the movie would have been a goner.
Rensil D’Silva has commendably avoided contrived pieces like ‘sorry, ecjhactly’ in his dialogues.
Aamir is the only piece of brilliance that shines through an otherwise deadbeat cast. The scripting is bad.
Questions:
o Who sends Rapid Action Forces to violently attack a mourning session?
o Who sends commandos to shoot peacefully-surrendering convicts?
o How come the 3 ladies (soha, firang, waheeda) are left alive, and all the 7 men (kunal, aamir, sharmaan, atul, siddharth, madhavan, anupam) die?
o Is a cigarette integral to every frame?
o For a movie set entirely in Delhi, how come a sequence is suddenly shot in IMAX, Wadala?
o Which hero wears gloves through the day?
o There seemed to be some chemistry between siddharth and soha right?
o What happens to the Firang’s all-important documentary?
I would advise you to watch the movie at a smaller theatre, and sooner rather than later. You’ve got to enjoy the fare with the audience cheering the genuine high points of the film, though they are few and far in between.
