Rang de basanti - Hues of life. Review on Rang De Basanti

I watched this movie yesterday after reading the reviews that I got in MS. Well, I actually liked it. Now to the details,I am not going to reveal the story as it has been done in 73 reviews.

ACTING :

Although the hero is Aamir khan, I felt the best perfomance was from Sidharth. He cuts a nice contrast between the patriotic,intense Bhagat Singh and Karan Singhania, a rich, bored , pessimistic guy. I personally think that he has got clear intense eyes that convey the emotions very well.Kunal Kapoor as Aslam has also put in a neat perfomance. Sharman Joshi as Sukhi is very cute. Atul Kulkarni's role as a cultural and patriotic fundamentalist is just a sleep walk for him. He had done it in Hey Ram before. Soha Ali Khan is good as Sonia . Alice Patten as Sue is great. She has gelled with the movie very well. Madhavan ,Anupam and Kiron Kher,Ompuri ,Waheeda Rehman have done cameo roles, but the one that stands out and the most important is that of Madhavan. He is a Flight Lieutant who loves India and is optimistic about the future hoping that if everybody makes a wee bit contribution, it could change the destiny of our country. Madhavan has done an excellent job.Kiron Kher as Aamir's mother also deserves special mention. Lastly, Aamir Khan's role does not require any special effort from him. He must be appreciated for getting his Punjabi accent correctly. He speaks like a Punjab da Puthar.

MUSIC:

Although its from AR Rehman, I personally felt it was a great letdown. Rang de basanti and Roobaroo were the only songs that ring in your ears after the movie.

STORY,SCREENPLAY and DIRECTION :

The story is a novel one juxtaposing the past and the present giving an idea for the future. The screenplay has also been done such that the events in the pre interval segment make sense post interval. Frankly, during the interval,I felt that the the story was going nowhere and probably it was DCH kind of movie. But post interval, with the death of Madhavan, the story takes off . The sequence of madhavan's death and the way it was twisted by politics was well handled. It was particularly heart wrenching. The director has been successful in involving the viewers with the movie. I say this because after the movie was over, the audience gave an applause,something unheard of these days.

If you think the movie was kind of pessimistic and was kind of destructive, you need to remember something. Basically the movie is drawing parallels between those freedom fighters and today. Their death had ignited the fire for freedom in many people. Similarly, the death of the people might ignite the desire to bring a better India.

MY THOUGHTS :

I personally think its a good movie in the sense it reminds me of Kennedy's words ''Ask not what the country can do for you , but what you can do to the country''. It has been very easy for us to complain, thr PM is not good, the politicians are not good, Nothing can change here ,etc etc. But have we ever thought what we could do to change it ?

To quote a dialogue from an another movie from tamil called Anniyan,'' Its not enough if the captain alone is good in a cricket team. Each of the 11 players must give their best for the team to win'' . It is not easy to change everything. We need a lot of time,patience and perseverence. But I am sure that it will change one day !
