The much anticipated Rang de Basanti has finally arrived, and although not in a pompous manner, it is definately one of the better flicks to hit the theatres. Rang de Basanti is a movie that is good, but could have been much better. It charters issues, that should have been toyed with long ago, but still, better late than never.
RDB essentially captures the mood of the young generation (Played passionately by Amir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth, Madhavan and Atul Kulkarni). Carefree, non flag-waving, with a charming devil-may-care attitude towards life, these guys have the time of their lives! How they transform into a bunch of radicals after their pilot friend dies due to the callous and corrupt ways of the government, is fundamentally what the story is all about.
The story has a lot of potential and could have been tackled in a more effective manner. The screenplay is the result of a terribly angry young man - Rakesh Mehra at that. And he seems to loose grip and go a tad overboard with the percept, loosing his objectivity and succumbing to illogic!
The film is superior technically. The music is excellent. A few ties in the loose-ends (the defence minister goes for his morning walk with only 1 bodyguard - HA!!)and omission or rectification of a few far-fetched sequences (The whole radio-station upheaval) could have taken the film to another level.
All in all, a decent affair that could have been much better!
