Erstwhile ways to create music for the youth has been sufficed to making zippy tunes, lift offs from recent hip hops and accompanied with quick easy lyrics and hence you get pep nos. to your album resulting in albums which aren’t substantial if you being a music lover. Such albums limit your listening perspective.

This January the Generation Awakens.

A.R Rahman joins hands with Prasoon Joshi to create renditions for a Generation that Awakens for the country and takes a call.

For the sheer fact that A.R Rahman has transitioned himself from period music to this modern urban movie i.e. from Mangal Pandey to Rang De Basanti is worth applause. Thankfully the album has all new feel to it. No reminder started tunes from previous Rahman songs & hence you surely are listening to something new.

As I always say it’s a Rahman album and you need to give it time to grow on you else if you take a Himesh Reshammaiyya perspective to it then I have nothing to say because he has is easy style to create music. Let’s look at the album, NOW.

Cassette is Rs.60 and the CD is Rs.150

Listen to it the way I have listed the songs, it will help the album to grow on you ;-)

1) Ek Onkaar

Harshdeep Kaur

This is religious and for the serenity of this short stint I would suggest you to start with this. It’s actually remembering Vaahe Guru and hence it’s a decent start to the album. I think this will come in a scene where they shoot in Golden Temple in the movie.

10/10

Rang De Basanti…

Daler Mahendi & Chitra

Daler Mahendi is back to what he does best, giving energy to the song. This is his second outing with Rahman after Lakeer last year and to put it shortly this is a energy song full of spirit. The initial tune gives it a Punjabi feel and so does the follow up with Dhol and Hadippa in the background. Chithra wasn’t a good choice according to me coz she was too imploded in comparison to the energy of the song. Daler carries it through out well especially the high pitch mera Rang De Basanti chant. Prasoon is impressive with lyrics and to give you my favorite part well here it is. This is the pick of the album for the sheer spontaneity of the song.

…9/10…

Ding ding ding a ding...

Thodi si Dhool meri…

Dharti ki mere watan ki…

Mohe Rang De Basanti …Mohe Rang De Basanti

Paathshala…Part 1

Naresh Iyer, Mohammad Aslam

New names and again a new energy which is more peppy and more funny to listen to thanks to the https://lyrics. The tunes and sounds are unique and you will be hear a beep every now & then between the songs. The feel of the song is like ‘the gang’ having fun and doing all masti. The line goes… I am a Rebel.

Part 2

Blaaze, Aslam, Naresh Iyer

This one is about being a rebel probably a Cause song if the former was a Effect song. Blaaze, do you remember him?.. umm.. remember Bunty n Bubly…remember Amitabh in that Rap song with semi naked babes…see that was quick :P. Well yes he returns and this one has a change in lyrics but follows the same music composition all over

Check the lyrics; they are fun.

Talli hoke girne se, samjhi humne gravity

Ishq ka practical kiya, tab aayi humko clarity

Apni to Paathshala, masti ki pathshaala

Both of them get a combined 7/10. from me.

Luka Chuppi..

Lata Mangeshkar & AR Rahman

This is sincere effort and a warm song because it isn’t energized as the previous ones but is slow and subtle. The song starts with Lataji’s voice and its all feel good listening to it. The lyrics are fit to the purpose which is to bring emotions between a mother and his son. You surely will like this. The guitar goes all along the song and middle of the way the songs gets appended with a tabla background which just puts icing on cake. This is a serene song.

9/10 from me.

Roobaroo..

A R Rahman, Naresh Iyer

Well the best way to catch a listener’s attention is to start a song with a guitar. You will feel like listening to this while lying on the bed and relaxed. The song is as good as Aashayein from Iqbal and Naresh Iyer does the major chunk of voicing it and he does well. A R Rahman supports with Rooobarooo. The song tell you that there’s a new day every day. Aae Saala :P (the song has this in it)

8/10 for this.

Dhuan Chatta, khula gagan mera

Nayi dagar, naya safar mera

Jo ban sake tu humsafar mera, Nazar mila zara

Lalkaar

.Aamir Khan & Chorus

Yes after Ghulam & Mangal Pandey Aamir gives his voice to this not so song but an urge a verbal urge to the people about doing something for the nation against its enemies. The lyrics are an important part in such an urge kind of composition & this is where Prasoon scores. You get to hear Aamir’s voice and a surround chorus. Pay attention to the lyrics they are damn good.

Sarfaroshi ki tammanna ab humare dil mein hai

Zindagi to apni mehmaan maut ki mehfil mein hai

Khoon se khelenge holi gar watan mushkil mein hai

Hmm, this gets 7/10for lyrics and the intriguing urge.

Khoon Chala

Mohit Chauhan

This one has a Aatif feel to it (Jal) coz its Mohit Chauhan’s (MC) voice that resembles him and hence the song is free and easy on ears. The music is all about violin sounds with a constant ting of a piano and hence in a low music scenario emphasis goes on lyrics and this one looks another nicely penned and especially the voice of MC is something that you can look forward for more, hmm he has that band singer feel to it.

8/10

Khalbali

A R Rahman, Aslam & Nacim

The Arabian lyrics are from Nasim. This surely seems to be a situational filler song in the feel and after 1 hearing I was skipping this deliberately. The song gets fast with some steam in music especially the electronic rhythm but overall its imploding.

4/10

Tu Bin Bataye

Madhushree, Naresh Iyer

Well I think this is another subtle slow song and the placing of this track on the CD wasn’t right coz you come down on energy levels after hearing RDB and paathshala song hence I think you will like it thanks to a pretty melodious rendering of words from Madhushree. She’s back the same good voice last heard in Hum hai iss pal yahaa….

Currently gets 5/10 but I think it has in it to appeal people.

The overall growth meter of this song is the way I ordered those songs. If you trust my opinion I think you will enjoy.

Cticize’s Quote:: “This is youthful album and shows that just being zippy and hip hopping numbers doesn’t means good music. The album needs time to grow especially the other songs. The title is sure to raise the adrenaline and makes your feet thump. Go for it”

Rate the effort and let’s talk in comments
