RANG DE BASANTI...................the film I am looking forward the most,not only because its a ''AAMIR KHAN'' film,but also because it has a great,new and fresh starcast comprising of people like ''ATUL KULKARNI,SHARMAN JOSHI,KUNAL,SIDDHARTH,MADHAVAN,SOHA ALI KHAN,OM PURI and WAHEEDA RAHMAN'',has a great story,and is directed by RAKESH MEHRA,who showed great potential in AKS,as a filmmaker.................and from the look of it the film looks very very promising,the promos have been great,and I was eagerly waiting for the music album of RDB to realese....................because it has music by my favouriteA.R.RAHMAN.......................his last few albums have not done that well,though I felt they were all good,people are slightly biased and critical when judging an album of RAHMAN,coz they expect a classic from him everytime,which is not fair to him.....................but his music does take some time to grow on you,its not like a instant hit with you and its the same with RANG DE BASANTItoo,an album which has a mix of songs,some very commercial-catchy tunes,some slow melodies and some very unusual composition,its a very unlike RAHMAN ALBUM,there is a bit of experimentation,he has tried to make new-age music,with good use of instruments..................and the end result in my opinion is great.The lyrics of this film has been penned by PRASOON JOSHI..................another man who has good talent.

The album opens with ''IK ONKAAR''(1.26).......................which is a devotional track,sung by HARSHDEEP KAUR,its a Guruvani that is sung in Gurudwara's and because the film is shot in GOLDEN TEMPLE,i think this song will be used in that seqeunce................its a very short track and sounds very nice to the ear.Good start to the album.
''RANG DE BASANTI''(6.02)....................is the song in the promos now-a-days and its a great track,very catchy,upbeat and from a man who is from SOUTH,RAHMAN..............has done a commendable job in composing a bhangra number.The lyrics are very good,DALER MEHENDI has sung it perfectly,without being loud..................Chitra has also sung a small part in the sung and she has done a fine job..................i love this track,esp the way it opens''Ding,Ding,Ding,Ding''........................very very addictive.
''PAATHSHALA''(3.38)....................my favourite song from this album,this song just ROCKS,its a potential chartbuster.There are two versions of this song and both are brilliant and though the lyrics are slightly weird\funny,the music,tempo,tune,beat,singing................everything makes up for it.I simply love the way the singers go................''I AM A REBEL!LOOSE CONTROL!'',and the way AAMIR KHAN has danced to the song in the promos is just damn cool and cute.NARESH IYER and MOHAMED ASLAM...................have sung it with the right amount of energy and masti....................SUPER TRACK.
''TU BIN BATAYE''(5.55)....................is a slow romantic song,very melodious but will take time to grow...................coz its very mellow with very less intrumentation,the music ,in the middle of the song...............though sounds very beautiful,i think its the saxophone.MADHUSHREE has sung the song beautifully.................her voie flows,very soothing,NARESH IYER provides her good support,lyrics are very poetic too...............by PRASOON JOSHI,kind of reminds you of GULZAR................in all a nice track.
''KHALBALI''(6.17).......................is a veru unusual song,its a dance song with a very ARABIC feel to it,it reminds me of KHALED's DIDI.The beats in this song are nice and groovy................and RAHMAN along with ASLAM,NACIM have done a good job,in creating that ARABIC feel in singing..................esp like the way RAHMAN has sung''ZIDDI................ZIDDI ZIDDI ZIDDI'',in the beginning of the track its mostly KHALBALI,which u get to hear....................later on there are some lyrics,its kind of track you might like in first hear or it may grow on you after repeated listenings,i kind of like it................its groovy and catchy,something different.
''KHOON CHALA''(3.07)...................is a brilliant track.It opens beautifully,the instrumentation is minimal,its a youthful track.................with some great inspiring https://lyrics.MOHIT CHAUHAN,never heard of him..................but he has done a great job in singing this song.My second best song from this album....................album is worth picking for this song alone.
''PAATHSHALA-BE A REBEL''(3.07)...................is the remix version,here the lyrics are done by BLAZE,and sung by ASLAM,NARESH,IYER and BLAZE,himself................this version is even better than the original............its super-cool,the way the singers go''O OYE,O OYE''is awesome.Beats and instrumentation is great too.......................''NAA KOI PADNE WALA,NA KOI SEEKHNE WALS,APNI TO PAATHSHALA,MASTI KI PAATHSHALA''....................
''LUKA CHUPPI''(6.36).....................is the only song I have not liked till now in this album.Its a song between mother-son,the use of piano and guitar is very nice in this song....................but somehow did not like the singing of RAHMAN-LATA MANGESHKAR together,voices do not gel together..................its a good track otherwise.................well after listening to the track a number of times I have changed my opinion about this song.....................its pure divine and both LATA.M\RAHMAN have done a great job.
''LALKAAR''(2.55).......................IS some dialouges,spoken by AAMIR KHAN,with very little musc in the background.Its another-patriotic\inspirational youth essentric song....................lyrics are nice and AAMIR KHAN has done a good job in speaking them,with lots of pssion and feeling.Its a situational track.
''ROOBAROO''(4.40)........................the album ends with this lovely track,i really liked this track on first hear.The use of guitar,the lyrics,singing by NARESH IYER and RAHMAN and the composition on the whole is teriffic,very nice feel to it,kind of a song between freinds.....................very nice.
RANG DE BASANTI....................is a great and different attempt by RAHMAN,and if its not a CLASSIC,its quite there..................in a music industry where people either make REMIXES or keep recycling the same tunes.......................atleast there is a man who composes and makes music which is new,fresh,different and very likeable....................so people go buy this album,its a must buy.......................if not for anything than PAATHSHALA.......................ROCK-ROCK-ROCKING SONG!HAPPY LISTENING!I only hope the film also turns out to be the same..................
