I myself visited Rameshwaram with my freinds.
It is few kilometers from chennai.Their is two route to visit rameshwaram and that is by road or by train .When u will go there you will find a very long bridge in your way which is made between the sea . And I m sure that you will like that open bridge. when you will reach their first you will find that the popullaion of that city is very less .It is surrounded by sea from all round .You can take a hotel or dharamshala to stay their nera main mandir. Next day you will go to bath in the sea which is very famous as a holy sea or place, sea do not have waves in it so you can easily bath their after that you can go to temple directly in wet cloths to pray , There will be long line because people from all over india visit their so everyone cannot pray at ones after get into line slowly slowly you will move inside the holy temple which is very beautiful and unique it feels that you have came in heaven .Their u will find severel arts and paintings on walls which is very historical after worshipping lord shiva you can take a guide or a taxi to go other places ( side secenes) in rameshwaram .
It is one of the most important holy place for hindu and they should always visit ones in their life.
