Recently we made the mistake of venturing into Rajdhani Snacklets at Metro Adlabs which is at Dhobi Talao and not in Churchgate.
Rajdhani Thali standards have also gone down greatly and we no longer go there so we should not have had any high expectations when we went to Rajdhani Snacklets.
We ordered a regular Bhelpuri @ Rs55 and a Ragda Pattice @ Rs75. In Bombay, when you order bhelpuri anywhere including at a roadside joint, it is always but always served with kanda batata i.e. chopped onions and boiled potato pieces. It is only Jain bhelpuri that comes without these 2 core ingredients. As we had not ordered a Jain bhelpuri, infact we specifically told the waiter to put more kanda batata in our dishes, so we were stupefied with what we were offered:
Bhel puri with perhaps 5 pieces of chopped onion and absolutely no potato. When we asked for these we were given a small portion of chopped onion but no potato. When we asked again we were told rather condescendingly that they do not add potato to their bhel. I pointed out that the colourful and descriptive menu failed to mention this fact and as everyone knows, bhelpuri always comes with potato, furthermore I was not told that no potato comes in their bhel when I specifically asked for extra kanda batata while ordering the item. I was then offered a small portion of potato bhaji as a substitute. Needless to say, the taste was not the same and the bhelpuri was not even a fraction as tasty as that offered at a much lower price in less pretentious establishments.
The Ragda Pattice consisted of a thin small veg cutlet chopped into many little pieces so that the customer may not know how small it is, the entire mass being smothered in a tasteless, nondescript sauce that did not include chick peas ragda. Again, a roadside joint offers a better portion and a far superior taste.
I should not have been surprised given the deteriorating standards of Rajdhani thali restaurants, especially those at Zaveri Bazaar and near Charni Rd.
In one word, bad choice - NEVER AGAIN!
