Though it has taken a very long time for me TO write this 25th review, I am extremely grateful to MOUTHSHUT TEAM for supporting me and of course my MS friends.
Being a foodie MYSELF, I enjoy different types of cuisines served in restaurants. My 25th review is certainly going to be on ?RAJDHANI?, which serves the authentic Gujarathi Thali.
One may wonder How Thali is still popular today when we have hordes of Mexican, Lebanese, Moghlai, Italian, Thai, Korean restaurants creeping in every nook and corner of India.Inspite of this, Thali symbolizes the inherent Indian culture marked with simplicity.
?Rajdhani? was started in Old Mumbai and now they have branches all over India and abroad.
During my recent trip to Mumbai, I happened to visit this one and it certainly has been the most cherished experience of my life. We reached pretty late by 10.30 pm for dinner. But to my shock, we had to wait for nearly 1 hr, as there was a huge crowd on Friday night. All of us were on empty stomach so as to enjoy this Gujju Thali. We were tempted to snack in nearby Pizza Hut but decided to WAIT. Finally our patience helped us to literally attack the food.
1.LOCATION: The new branch is situated in INORBIT MALL, MALAD (West) on the New Link Road, Mumbai. It?s about 1000sqft.
2.AMBIENCE: One may feel that he is enjoying Thali in a rural home in Gujarat. Plenty of terracotta pottery, rough hewn timber benches, bandhini motif forms, bright wall colors, Kites and rope-swing displayed on the wall. It?s an interesting fusion of rustic and universal, contemporary motifs that catch one?s attention. U feel at home away from all the glamour & glitter of the Mall.
3.FOOD: It has the awesome menu I have ever relished. More than 25 varieties of Tea are served. The menu for Thali changes daily. If u happen to be on Sunday, U will enjoy the famous UNDHIYO. Its unlimited meals with Rotla, Phulka, Puri, Bhakri, Dal Dhokli, Saak, Thepla, Thalipith, Masala Khichdi, Kadi, Papad, Raj Kachori, Farsan, Varieties of Chutney, Bajjiya, kesar puranpoli, varieties of sabjis, raita. And for digestion there is always the good old Masala Chaas. The sweets range from badam, akrot sheera to rabdi filled malpuha. Finally, Paan in authentic flavors makes way. The price is Rs125 per person and VALUE FOR MONEY.
4.SERVICE: is very good and efficient. The servers are in the usual Kathiawad dress and use ?sign language ? to communicate with each other(similarly used in Dumb Charades) in bringing different types of dishes instead of shouting ?Paani lana ya sabzi laana?. This is very unique thing leading to no confusion at all.
The finger bowl is the form of copper vessel with a strainer & bottom. U have to gently wash hands with the warm water brought by the waiter. This really adds a personal touch.
5.QUALITY is highly superior and the way this restaurant is packaged, will definitely go places.
Please ensure to reserve the table few hours in advance. Thali can really be enjoyed if u are willing to forget the calories for one day!!!!
