Marathi cuisine and Gujarati cuisine are pretty similar to each other and I enjoy both. I have been to this restaurant quite a lot of times for just the same reason. It is a place I have recommended to my family time and again.
Why?
For one, it is close to my home. Somehow this is the only restaurant we don't go to without prior planning. Because it is a such a huge fare that you need to go there prepared to eat, something like going to a battle or something. Or you just have to be an ardent foodie who is ready to eat anytime anywhere.
Secondly, the ambience of the restaurant. A very friendly place. The staff is very friendly. I have been to quite some places that serve thali meals. But they are so noisy "Oye! Sambhar Lao!" "Arey, rice lao". That's why I am impressed with the communication technique employed by the staff - Sign Language. They all have different signals for rotis, curries, and so on. Which makes the meal experience a pleasant one.
Some styles have changed with the changing economy, such as the amount being served. I think it is a good move to avoid wastage of food. Also, first they used to offer a choice of desserts during each serving. But now they serve all the desserts and all unlimited. Just a change in style. Good one.
I love this restaurant. I wish I was that ardent foodie who will actually eat anytime of the day - thali size, I mean, not tidbits.
Also, I always ring the bell that is placed at the entrance, provided no one is blocking it, just to hear the staff respond to you, "Aavjo!"(Do come back again)
