I was to reach Pune today(28th June 2007) from Mumbai in the morning.
While waiting for buses at vashi, I spotted the new Tata Globus series of buses put by Raj on the Mum-Pune route coming my way. When the bus stopped, I noticed it had a few passengers only and so I asked the conductor if I could hop in, to which he said yes.
I thought it would be a good deal as the tickets sell for 103 bucks online on their site and I would pay the same too. BUT. once on board, the conductor told me the ticket was for 200 bucks! Thats like 30 more than what I would have paid for shivneri volvo, a bus far more superior to the TATA GLOBUS bus! When I asked why not 103 bucks, he said it is for the first 11 passengers only, and when I counted, I was the 10th one! Still, he didnt budge.
Secondly, the driver and conductor, both werent in uniforms as compared to what they brag about in ads and on their site.
The TATA Globus bus is nowhere as comfy and refined as the Volvo and I felt cheated paying 200 bucks for the service.
Lastly, the driver was clearly bullying others on the road, had no sense of driving, the way he used to brake hard, change lanes and what not. The bus made a 20 min stop after the first toll plaza and another 10mins after the second one for like just 10 passengers! The bus left Vashi at 6:45am and reached pune station at 10:30am, 3hrs 45mins as compared to 3hrs taken by shivneri volvo from vashi to pune station.
Overall, my experience wasnt good at all.
