Tip #1: If you ever cry in the bathroom then keep the shower on.

Tip #2: Wait till a certain point of time in night and if you still can’t sleep then take these sleeping pills.

A lady settled in a decent flat in Calcutta , married to a handsome and well salaried man gives these tips to her husband’s friend ,who came from village to meet his long lost and now married beloved .These things comes by experience then what is wrong with this seemingly happy woman.

What is wrong with this woman does happen, may happen and will happen to many of us in real life too. Life is not always a bed of roses ,beloved’s arms, smiling faces, peaceful sleep and laughter. Life is sometimes a worn out mattress covered with clean linen, lonely ness, fake smiles, sleep aided with sleeping pills, crying in bathroom(with shower on) and pretensions too.

Raincoat: Renowned Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh’s bollywood debut is in a way one man show by the director itself. All the major aspects like direction, lyrics, dialogue, script are attributed to this one man only. Ghosh has earlier made an award winning Bengali movie Chokher Bali with Aishvarya Rai.

Plot A very realistic plot. The director has stolen a few hours of two people’s lives which any one of us can associate to in one way or another. Let me not ruin the charm of movie by giving away the subtle facts regarding the plot which is otherwise on everybody’s tips these days(thanks to the promos of movie).

Star cast

Ajay Devgan as Manu : Heartbreak could be read in his eyes and hardships of life are very well shown by his expressions . He was supposed to play an unemployed chap from rural bihar .He was supposed to act a broken heart who want to see his long lost love for once (after 6 years).

Guess what ??? He did it all too well.

Aish Rai as Niru : All of the Aish critics , you must add an extra paragraph in your writeups about Ms. Rai.

  1. She wore no makeup in this movie.

  2. This time she could clearly show various emotions like jealousy , love, pain , dignity without confusing one with another.(no batting of fake eyelashes, no plastic smiles)

She played a village girl going through the privations of life and yet trying to sustain her dignity infront of her erstwhile love.

Guess what??? She did it too.

Mauli Ganguly , Sameer Dharmadhikari and Annu Kapoor had small appearances which they did justice with.

Music Check the following URl to see my views on its music

All I can say again is Its magic, its classy.

Verdict: Sensible , sensitive ,simple and yet a powerful movie.

A trade off between commercial and parallel cinema but tilted more towards the latter. Songs won’t bother you at all , they are beautifully alloyed with the flow of the movie.

A movie for...

Not a movie for those who want to see an action and thriller packed with copied fighting sequences, not for those who are in need of a dreamlandish love story where all is well in the end, Not even for those who are in the mood of a pure art flick with an extremely tragic end.

A movie for realists, a movie without an end cause life goes on.

For example consider this dialogue by the wife of manu’s friend:

She said:

“what do you think Manu, she is thinking of you all the time ???

No…..by this time her husband would be back and she would be busy with him and her household chores “
