If I had to
grade this movie as per the seating arrangement in a theatre I would great it
''Balcony Type''. A narrative beautifully created, screenplay which only Bong
directors are capable of whether its legendry Satyajit Ray or Hrishikesh
Mukherji or now Rituparno Ghosh. Typical Gulzar Emotions and very ''unputdownable''.
One could make out so many great writers from the story line apart from O
Henry...both in the english world as well as the Hindi world of literature.
Something one could relish every bit and part of..(except ''chintu candy'' ads on
a pirated CD version). If you are looking for glamorous Aish...here is where you
find how glamorous she could have been if she wasn’t Miss world, her acting
skills have not only been polished and decorated but also redefined by Dialogue
delivery and use of straight ''Bihari Accent'' in Hindi, the same can be said for
Devgan who seemed to have picked up this accent quite tactfully after ''Gangajal''.
Both Aish and Devgan's next door looks make them eligible to be christened as
one of the finest actors of Bollywood Cinema. This movie
would remind you of so many short stories you might have read..and if you aren’t
an avid reader or you somehow don't Gel well with stories.. I am sure you
remember Short stories in standard X or XII Course in hindi or english
Lit..namely ''Purdah'' or ''Eyes have it''...both being narratives and having strong
linkage to the story line of said movie. The movie is
more of a theatre rather than cinema. it has been shot without any fancy
locations (actually on the sets of a room..''drawing room with antic furniture''),
no body could have done it better than Rituparno himself.background
score by Shobha Mudgal could have been replaced by Pdt. Jasraj or if it was to
be Mudgal it could have been purely classical rather than ''heavy bass'' effects.
Gulzar is as usual sensual but then he has of late become repetitive but on
whole the music and poetry by Gulzar are critic worthy, but once again Shobha
Mudgal Needs to get her acts together, she sounds more like Usha Utthup singing
for some wedding party rather than classical singer.
