Story:

John Grisham, one of the finest writers of our times comes up with a beauty this time. This is one of the finest works of Grisham along with the novel ? A time to kill?. I say this after reading, ? The client?, ?The firm?, ?The partner?, ? The runaway jury?, ? The street lawyer?, ? The summons? and the ? The testament?. The last two are disappointing, but leaving them all are good. Most of his novels have been made into Hollywood blockbuster movies.

The story is about a young Twenty five year old rookie lawyer named Rudy Baylor Pleading his first trial against a medical insurance company named Great Benefit that refused to pay the claim of a dying man named Donny ray who is dying by having leukemia. He couldn?t get medical attention because the insurance company refused to cover his medical expenses. The case is worth millions and the company is prepared to fight to the death, the only problem is Rudy hasn?t graduated from law school! The book excellently describes the horrible face of insurance corporate and their malpractices and how these companies play with the lives of people.

The Plot -:

?Rainmaker? ? It is term assigned in legal world to someone who brings big clients (i.e., big money) to a law firm.

Rudy Baylor is in his final semester of his law school and is required by one of his professors to provide free legal advice at senior citizens home. Here he stumbles upon two possible jackpots: Miss Birdie an old tight-lipped widow with millions squirreled away and who definitely needs a new will, and Dot Black , who?s son Donny Ray is dying of leukemia while their insurance company refuses to pay for the medical treatment. As the days pass until graduation, he is dropped by the firm that was going to hire him .

He eventually gets a job but the guy who hired him tries to steal his case worth millions. The night he gets fired, that office gets torched and he is the one blamed. Problem after problem arise until he is helped out by his friend Prince who helps Rudy to get a job with Bruise Stone (the typical evil lawyer).

As the story unfolds, Rudy meets a co-worker by the name of Deck They slowly become friends and two gain a trust, something that doesn?t come easy at the law office of Bruiser Stone Meanwhile things are dug up for Bruiser and Prince and they have to ditch down. In the meantime Rudy meets a woman who is being abused by her husband, so Rudy falls for and protects her from him.

Throughout the story, we will hear the other tales of Miss Birdie his temporary landlord and yard boss! As well with the story of Cliff and Kelly Riker. When it gets right down to the natty ?gritty of the case against the evil insurance company, Rudy goes head to head with Mr. Leo Drummed, a very mean lawyer. But luckily he?s got a judge that is on his side and helping him throughout the case.

The book has a humorous lacing to it that will keep you in splits throughout.

Humor Highlights -:

· The planting section with Miss Birdie along with her so called sandwiches.

· Rudy?s colleague and then partner, the odd shaped Deck who is always waiting for tragedies and disasters to happen so that they can make some money by representing them for insurance claims. He actually waits in Hospital cafeterias wishing and hoping for bandaged and mummied up patients to be taken up as clients. The better the car accident the more the claim.

As far as the characters go, you really begin to love and feel for them. Especially Dot Black and her dying son Donny Ray. As the story unfolds and you read on through Donny Ray?s story of how Great Benefit denied him treatment time after time, it makes you want to get up and cuss out to the insurance company. The emotional content is very true and strikes you.

It is a skilful presentation of a case of good versus evil. We learn throughout the book that perseverance always wins Baylor, the inexperienced lawyer, gives inspiration to the little people in the world trying to make it in life. The end is fantastic and very different!
