Rocking Steady. Review on Rahul Dravid

Many people may agree to the fact that Rahul Dravid is the most technically correct batsman in Indian Cricket even emulating the Indian Don,''Sachin Tendulkar'' but very few would agree to the fact that Rahul indeed has the ability to score quick runs.I hereby want to wipe off this myth.

Unlike many contemporary players,Rahul Dravid is not a run scorer but a run accumulator.Since he is a middle order batsman,he cannot gather runs like the openers do because of the wide-spread field.The openers have always had the advantage of hitting the ball over the infield and Rahul is deprived of that.Above all is Rahul's technique.His correct technique and his ethics to stick to the basics and to treat the ball on merit has always brought about his criticism.But only a true cricket fan and lover can enjoy the batting of this maestro.

The onslaught of one-day cricket and the quest to score runs as quickly as possible has made a squash of all things.Cricket no more is a gentleman's game but Rahul is a gentle-man.So if one thinks that Dravid dosent fit into the scheme of one-dayers then he might probably be right if you think as a viewer of cricket than a lover.But what about the flair,what about the technique,the grace and the vibrance he inputs into every shot of his? I can say Dravid is an artist when it comes to hitting the ball.As Pree_16 suggested,probably anybody who would like to learn the perfect art of cricket then their tutor should be Rahul.

One could always argue that Dravid has a poor strike rate of 68% in one-dayers but for everyone's kind information the strike rate of No.1 oneday batsman Michael Bevan is just 3 more at 71%.I would rather say Dravid normally appears as if he is not scoring but indeed he has been.

Now coming to the test matches.The absolute beauty of Dravid's batting can only be seen in test matches where he applies all his great techniques to full use.That rock solid defence with high elbow is simply unmatched .It is always tuff to get a batsman out when he has a great defence than a batsman like Tendulkar who goes for his shots.Since Dravid is a middle order batsman his technique is perfectly suited because he can hold one end up in this very inexperienced Indian Middle order.

In conclusion,I can only say that only a person who really has an indept knowledge of cricketing techniques can enjoy this maestro's batting.The Irredentists of Indian Cricket had prognasticated that this lad would go no where but the fact that he is the Indian Vice-captain proves that he is truely a class-act.With his great technique and temperment and his ability to adapt,he should serve India for years to come for the Indian middle order to rock steady.
