Didn't Freddy Mercury say it right , Radio since its invention in the September of 1895 by Guglielmo Marconi, at Bologne has changed with time improving with time , but its greatness its is survival !!!. Today in the world of Internet , Mp3s and ahost of other things we still have the good old Radio and moreover Radio has also come in adapted forms like Internet Radio and even FM in the Cellfone. Radio works by transmission of electromagnetic waves from a transmitting antenna to receiving antenna. That's the basic definition of a Radio.

In India Radio has always been under the care of the government , right from the days of Binaca Geet mala by the inimitable Ameen Sayani , till quite recently , around 6 years or so years ago the Frequency Modulation or FM (which is a more superior wavelength than Meduim Wave or Short Wave ) channel was thrown open to private parties, and the country had Times FM and Radio Mid day , the joy was short lived however as the government thought otherwise and stopped privatization through its Prasar Bharati bill.

But then now they have decided to privatize it again , and with a forward thinking government in terms of Telecommunication we sincerely hope this would continue. Radio Mirchi which is the rechristened form of Times FM by the Times Group started off, but then this time they started at small towns like Indore then moving to bigger cities like Pune and finally smashing through Mumbai. They made sure enough publicity was made in all these launches. Meanwhile the Government had its 107.1 FM which was no mean deal either as it had a good blend of youth and classics and already helped imbibe the Radio culture to the Internet , Cellfone and the TV crazy youths.

At this juncture came Radio Mirchi , and dosent it sizzle , ohhh man its HOT !!!! . Its really fresh in terms of presentation even compared to the Hep 107.1 FM. The best part is that it's a 24 hr Radio Channel !!!. The Mornings have Brian and Erica belting out some classics and then Good Morning Mumbai in which you have talks with Mumbai celebrities in all walks of life. Their shows have everything in them , business , stocks , Weather, News , Sports ,Culture , Interviews etc . But then the area where they score the most is that the core idea of the channel is only MUSIC. You have business news and all the other items with a light musical beat in the background, hey man check this out its really cool !!! , the main part is you're never bored even if they don't play you kinda music sometimes ,which is bound to happen , you cant satisfy everyone.

The Freshness is evident even in the Jingle, me being a music lover and a freak I especially love that special jingle where in you have a soft percussion which slowly builds up to a Chorus saying '' Radio Radio Radio Mirchi '' and then there is a slight harmonica piece. This short jingle is mind blowing and I must use this space to salute that musician. The evenings have Ash Chandler with his Furry friend Franky with four Eyes ( whatever that means or is ) but he makes you feel that his furry friend is real , he brings the Buzz to you in the evening along with Bumper to Bumper wherein he speaks to callers and plays his own music. He once had a 70 year old Blind man call , oh man that's something for a channel in such a short time, less than a month.

Radio Mirchi has also got some thing else along with them …. Competition , we have two more channels along with 107.1 FM. The positives of Mirchi are its superior reception and sound quality , amazing.

Watch this space, this young un dosent have any shortcomings as of now and if it has I will try and edit my review to point them out, and till that time its 98.3 FM Radio Mirchi.
