Radio City, was launched in Bangalore I think a little over a couple of years ago.... promising the listeners in Bangalore city non-stop entertainment 24/7. Well, they did keep up their part of the bargain for two years......
Earlier, they had these fantastic slots on English songs, old and new, along with time slots for Hindi songs as well. Now, it is a totally different Radio City than what it was when they started off...... Full day only Hindi, Hindi and more Hindi songs..... agreed Hindi is our national language..... but this -> HEIGHTS!!!!. Its not that I dont like Hindi, for heaven sake no, but there has to be a limit to it. Even an avid listener would shy away eventually..... and here we are talking about appealing to a mass of people that come from all walks of life.....
I dont think a slot for english songs could be found in the new schedule that has been inked out in the past 4-6 months. I do hope that they do something about this ''revamping'' that they have done, and try to accomodate a larger portion of the crowd.
Man..... what can I say..... I suppose now is the right time for other radio station operators to grab this opportunity with both hands and launch their frequency in Bangalore, especially since the government has relaxed the fees by quite a hefty amount. I dont see Radio City improving and getting back to the old glory that they had once reached..... not in the near future atleast.
Most of the cities have more than two stations..... why not Bangalore? I suppose once competition comes into the market, everything will fall in place for the listeners as well the station providers.
