There were times when people used to have a very focussed view of what radio was.By this I mean,people always looked at radio as a source of information in remote areas and only television and movies as a source of entertainment.
Music was not considered to be a part of radio and the music played on the radio was never given much attention.
But when Radiocity was first started in Bangalore on the 3rd of July 2001,it redefined the meaning of radio in India,leave alone Bangalore.Now its offshoots are up in Mumbai and Lucknow also.But I hereby would like to write about the radiostation in Bangalore.
Radiocity 91 FM is probably the best entertainer around.They play non-stop music all-day and all-night and what they play is good music.Though they mostly play western and hindi not catering to the needs of the regional people,they entertain.The Radio Jockey are equipped with great tongues and also a good way to lure people into listening to them.
Their shows start from 7 AM and end at 12AM.So they do a non stop job of entertaining.
Bangaloreans might know that Sunaina Lal handles the Breakfast Show and she really makes everyone feel happy by the way she talks,greets and run contests. She also gives people a chance to message in and to be on air.There are really some nice interviews done on the show with famous personalities and thats what makes the Breakfast show special.
Then there is Sheetal Iyer who takes up the job of livening us all with great hindi retro numbers in the Matinee Show.It makes up for a great office time music.
The Request Show aired between 2 and 4 is simply wonderful.RJ Jonzie Kourian is liked by one and all,(especially by the girls in bangalore and thats because he has a chirpy voice) because he plays the music people want.We can send in our request through and he reads out our mail and plays our song....only if he likes us off course.But thats what he says but he plays almost all requests that comes his way.
The well known VJ and now a radiocity RJ Rohit Barker takes care of all the gossip you ever wanted.Yes, Radiocity Cafe is full of pomp and glory and the 2 hours from 4 to 6 in the evening is great time-pass.Especially the teenagers and the college goers prefer this show because its all about boyz,galz,the dating game and things our parents dont know.The interactive games that he plays on line with listeners like 5 in 15 makes the show all that more exciting.
Then comes Suresh Venkat with Hot Air.He plays some nice numbers coupled with a lot of informations,traffic and pollution updates and above all more gossip.It is a show that's really suited for a hearty drivetime.
Finally the Late Show.Priya Ganapathy handles it with applomb and she rocks all night.Yes,she plays all the rock music that we ever craved for and all that coupled with some good useful information about rock bands and their music.She also interacts with listeners via e-mail and she indeed replies to all their mails.Some times she throws some topic and would ask for views from the listeners and indeed read them out on air.
This is the week day schedule.The weekends are filled with more great shows like The Vibe,The Spin,World Chart show,Club Show,Chow Chow Baat,Full meals,Big Mouth and Retro Show.
Every saturday,its Sunaina Lal again with a show named The Vibe.True to its name,the show is really vibrant with great music coupled with some nice topics of discussion and above all the interviews with famous personalities.Anil Kumble and Venkatesh Prasad are among the many who have been on air in The Vibe.
Then its part-time RJ Durais with The Spin.Again this show is full of music and many more interactive stuff with listeners.
The always awaited World Chart Show is up between 3pm and 7 pm where Jonzie again takes over for 4 hours of awesome music.Its the top 40 countdown to the best songs on planet earth.In this show too we get to hear a lots of contests like beat the rj etc. which add up to the fun.
Then comes the wake up call for every one who is just waiting to be on the dance floor because,Rohit Barker and Bangalore hottest DJ,Ivan are up with The Club Show.They play all the club music that we always wanted and its 3 hours of absolute party from 7pm to 10 pm.
Come Sunday,its Chaitanya Hegde with Chow Chow Bath which caters for all the regional music lovers.His show is a mix of Hindi,Kannada and English music topped with some nice discussions.
Well,during meals,Sheetal Iyer comes up with a show named Full Meals.This is an additional dose of old hindi songs for all the people who just crave for it.Here she even invites listeners to suggest some specials and when she does the special,say a kishore kumar special suggested by someone,then she infact makes that person her co-host on that very day.Great recognition for true music lovers.
From 4pm to 7pm its Bangalore's Blabber Box(as he calls himself as),Suresh Venkat with Big Mouth.This show is again an over-dose of gossip and entertainment.To take us through our lazy sunday evenings.
Retro Show is again handled by Priya Ganapathy and she gives a detailed insight into the classic numbers of yester-years.Songs,Bands and anthem that'll never go out of fashion is played from 7pm to 9pm which makes a great end to a wonderful Sunday line up.
Thus,Radiocity caters to all the music needs of a listeners.
But they have got more.They air so many adds that are not only funny but really informative and cherishable.Many other shorties like the traffic update,whats up Bangalore,Bangalore Gyan,Movies in Town,Business Talk adds up to the fun and excitement.They run so many contests and always keep us on the move.So to say,Radiocity is preferred to television in Bangalore would not be an understatement.
Listening to Radiocity is more advantageous than watching the television.
1.We can do our job while we listen to some good music that'll keep us on the move.
2.We can avoid bad music videos and just listen to the music
3.Provides nice entertainment anywhere,anytime.
4.Lots of information can be gathered about music and true music fans are give great recognition.
Thus,radiocity provides a great means of entertainment wherever we go and whatever we do.And a true music lover can relish all the good music they play all day.
