This place is slipping... Review on Radha Park Inn, Adyar, Chennai

Radha Park Inn, now called Radha Regent was one of my favorite places in town. We have been regulars for years at the lunch buffet, which was uniformly excellent. It is rare to find that every dish in a buffet is tasty but that was what they managed to do in the Coffee Shop for years. The service, too, was always top class. Unfortunately they seem to be slipping, as a recent experience proved.

We were invited for Teppanyaki by a friend who was staying there. He informed reception the previous day and they accepted the booking and confirmed it the next morning. However, when we went there that evening, we were told that teppanyaki was not available that whole week, notwithstanding a big hoarding outside the hotel! We could not complain to the top brass as they would not give us his number.

We swallowed our disappointment and went to have the buffet at the coffee shop - the Cafe in the Park. The spread was good but somehow not up to their usual standards. One irritation was the delay in replacing dishes and the desserts were really disappointing. A cockroach wandering about on the table where the buffet was laid out, was another negative.

We had a similar experience at lunch a month ago. It is possible that they have been done in by their own popularity and are not able to mange the crowd at the buffet.
