Love him or hate him, but you cannot ignore him!
Yes, you guessed it right. I am a HUGE SRK fan... and when I say HUGE, I mean REALLY HUGE! I LOVE all his films, without a fail.
So this time as well, while my colleague and his family sitting next to me gazed at their watches to see when the "torture" (as they called it) will get over, I glared into the screen, all smiles... on a date with my SRK.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is about an average looking, common man from a small town who gets married to an extraordinarily smart and beautiful girl under some strange circumstances. What follows of course is how they two make their marriage work.
The lead roles are played by SRK, and a new face--Anushka Sharma, who definitly looks much prettier in the film than what she appears in the promos.
There have been extremely mixed reviews about the film in every sphere of media. While many say its a must watch, others just shun it off calling it a bore. It's actually on an individual to judge how he likes it, after watching it.
The movie is one to be seen for sheer cinematic pleasure. Though there is a message that can be drawn from it, there is not a dire need to peep into the screen to logic-out sense about--why doesn't his wife recognize him? How can he fake the mustache? How can he light the city in I Love You?
Amen, a film is a FILM... it is NOT real life and no one asks you to believe it so!
The movie has this special connect to what SRK is... by himself. It's the transition of the lover boy character of SRK from Bazigar to DDLJ and Mohobbatein to RNBDJ.
So for those who take "love" as a subject... this is the right film to watch. However, for those who wish to find a Rang De Basanti or a Tare Zameen Par in every movie... this may prove a bad bet.
The high point of the film is the song... Tujh mein Rab dikhta hai. The song can sure help you connect with the movie as well as with your own self to a great extent.
This probably is another dimention of love that the Yash Raj banner presents. After love as friendship and courtship and family approval... this is love in a real life situation, the love of a married couple... a love that does not really need compromises, instead it needs a perception-change.
However, there is still a lot that Adi Chopra has missed on... this time, he definitly has missed out on touching the audience the way he did in DDLJ.
Attribute that to the seemingly fake sets or a lower budget (it seemed it was low, but I am not sure if it was!)... the film does bring a viewer to the brim of tears, but fails to make them cry... sob... wheep... the way SRK does!
I guess for those who don't "analyse" a film like a freak or don't start comparing it inch-by-inch to their real life, Rab Ne Bana Di Jobi can be a sheer cinematic delight to watch.
