QuarkXpress is out there in market for almost 10 years. Those of us who have even some elementary ideas abut the Information Technology world we know that 10 years means almost an impossible age for any software. QuarkXpress could survive mainly because it always gave its users the comfort and flexibility that we need. I have been using this software since 1999 and I have seen that for magazine publishing or page layout it is much better than Page Maker (of Adobe). Adobe also introduced Indesign to destroy QuarkXpress and failed simply because they could not give the ease and flexibility of Quark. Journalist, writers, publishers, book designers- like QuarkXpress for its unmatched powerful features that are very easy to master.
(a) In terms of dealing with text QuarkXpress is far ahead with others. You do not have to worry about finishing text in a single page or in a definite ping of a page.
(b) It is very easy to learn this software. I am sure if you practice with a book for 2 hours everyday you will be able to master most of the basic features in less than a week.
(c) It gives exceptional amount of options while dealing with the text and picture side by side or at the same box.
(d) You can import materials from other softwares too.
(e) The latest version (5) is superb in order to use QuarkXpress for websites.
The last feature of this software I like to mention here is that most people involved with the publishing and newspaper industry are familiar with this software. So, if you are planning to make a career in Desktop Publishing please do not forget to be a boss of this software. Otherwise you will regret not learning it forever.
