Sean Connary and Nicholos Cage starred in ''The Rock'' a few years back and it was one hell of a movie. Grand Fortress, real looking rockets and the Virus stored in Green Balls which actually looked dangerous. Ed Harris gave that cool military look bargaining till the last but never able to betray the fellow countrymen, whom he loved at heart. Now I am not writing the review on THE ROCk but there is not much difference in the storyline as such, even the camera angles and set designes have been copied to the minutest details...well almost. The only similarity between the two movies is the pathetic performance of the so called politicians. Again the hindi version had a really pathetic performance. The opening shot is a cracker and gives Qayamat a jump start, but after that its a copy of The Rock frame by frame. The difference is a leading lady I really do not remember and Ajay Devgan donning the cap of Sean Connery. The villians in the shape of Arbaz Khan and Sanjay Kapoor look like jokers and they are aptly helped by Chunky Pandey who really was there as a comedian. The story is like this...There is a set of brothers who want to make a lot of money and so they side with ISI of Pakistan(the brothers are muslim) to unleash a deadly virus with the help of Chunky Pandey(who thankfully is not a muslim) who is a scientist who steals the deadly virus from the Indian Government laboratory. The third hero is a scientist there with a silly girl friend. The majority of shooting takes palce in the fort of Diu which is shown as off the shore of Mumbai and where the terrorist hold a group of tourists as hostages and demand a heafty sum of money for not launching the virus laden rockets on to the Mumbai city. There is a frightened CM of the state and also an Intellengence who is always helpless and out of ideas just like the director who picked up the story line. A policeman( Sunil Shetty acting as a good muslim who loves his country) with a group of commandos are guided by a comatose Ajay Devgan go underwater to the old fort and try and take out the hostages. The commandos are all killed and its left to the half dead devgan and the scientist to save Mumbai from disaster. The story ends in a dramatic fashion with devgan throwing some good punches and kicks and dogging bullets with a shrug ot hand or neck and trimphing over evil. Even the ending is lifted straight from THE ROCK, with the hero signalling with flares to call off the strikes. The good part are the action sequences and the opening shot. If you have not seen the original english flick its a good time pass otherwise you sit there and compare. The funniest part is the CM of Maharashtra ordering the Air Force fighters to attack and then to call off the attack. All and all a decent movie can be watched once.
