The film “Kaidi Band”is story of those people who are in prison and waiting for the verdict of whether they committed a crime or not. This is a very serious issue. The Indian judiciary system is under heavy pressure to provide justice in millions of pending cases. The undertrials become the prime victims of this delay and they keep serving years in jails without their case even being heard. Director Habib Faizal made a love story on it, without keeping seriousness of the problem in mind.
In the film a band is created in which male and female prisoners are involved with a goal to present a patriotic son on 15th August. The hero Sanju(Adhar Jain) and heroine Bindu( Anya Singh) are part of this band. A minister who came as a chief guest on this occasion wanted to keep this band alive for a unknown reason. The band performed on 15th August and became world famous with this band. I do not know in which Indian jail it is allowed to create a band in combination of male and female under trial prisoners.
During this performance the love story of Sanju and Bindu takes shape. These people plans to escape from the prison in the shelter of band, so that they will tell the problems of under trial prisoners. At this concept the film is made.
It is pure bollywoodization of a Hollywood movie without understanding the Indian judiciary system. The serious problem of under trial is projected at very superficial way. The jailor Dhulia(Sachin Pilgaonkar), who keeps eating most of the time, is a weird mix of Karma’s Dilip Kumar and Sholay’s Asrani. Adhar Jain to work hard to stick into industry and Annaya Singh is discovered as new heroine in bollywood. Rest of the actors have done justice to their roles.
The music of the film is good, some songs touché the heart but the film by director Habib Faizal is very weak film. I will rate this film 2/5.
