Another comedy? Pretty much! Pyare Mohan doesn't let you get too involved. You don't have to be committed to any protagonist. You don't even have to connect to any situation. You just retire in your chair, gobble those crunchy popcorns, and get what you paid for: entertainment! Undoubtedly, Indra Kumar's smartest comedy to date, 'Pyare Mohan' communicates the airy ambience of a perfect comic party.....

Plot

One’s blind....

The other’s deaf.......

But when they are together their disabilities are more of their strength. Pyare{Fardeen Khan} becomes Mohan{Vivek}’s ears and Mohan becomes Pyare’s eyes.Pyare thinks before he acts or says something and maintains a stoic silence. Mohan is crazy, funny, silly, emotional, paranoid, worried and confused. They are different yet so similar...!

They were not born with the handicap, but an unfortunate accident in their profession ( stuntmen) led to the catastrophe.....

The film has another track that of Esha Deol and Amrita Rao who are wannabe popsingers . Esha is an ambitious girl who wants to get all the name, fame and popularity in her life and pictures on every hoarding board that her boyfriend could see and marvel. But unfortunately her boyfriend turns out be blind Pyare!

Amrita is a singer who wants to scale the height of popularity so that the entire world can hear her. But unfortunately her boyfriend turns out be deaf Pyare....!

At the outset the girls reject them on the grounds of disability but are soon made to realise that the humans matter and not their individual abilities.

Eventually Pyare and Mohan win the love of the two ladies ...

But a danger strikes in the form of Tony [Boman Irani].He is a criminal who stages his own death so that he can vanish from the eyes of the world. In a sudden chain of events, he ends up admitting this act of his to the world ..And his only way to come out of crisis is to eliminate Esha and Amrita! But they are not alone! Now they have Pyare and Mohan for company. Individually they may be physically diasbled but together they are a dynamo......What happens next?

Critical Analysis.....

The script is the combined work of Indra Kumar and Milap Jhevari and it does take a definite inspiration from hollywood flick 'See No Evil, Hear No Evil'. The two disabled characters do have some resemblence to that film, but that is where the similarity ends.Director Indra Kumar ably blends humor with glamour and adds some commercial spice to the mix serving up a tasty curry called Pyare Mohan.. In order to make a successful comedy the director must 1)Have the right story/theme, 2) Have a certain amount of freshness to the proceeding, 3) Have a cast that have a natural flair for comedy and mainly 4) Dialogues that leave the viewer in splits...and Pyare Mohan succeeds in all four department.

The film is devoid of crude jokes, double meaning one liners and over-suggestive physical gestures which is a welcome change from his last comedy Masti.More than that it drives home the fact that disabled people should be considered at par with normal human beings .The issue has been treated sensitively ,a rarity in Hindi movies!

Indra Kumar´s direction is good, as usual, without offering anything new. The fast pace has been evenly maintained throughout and the film moves at a brisk speed therefore, not leaving much room for boredom. The screenplay does have its share of flaws and the songs have been forced into the proceedings but the film is so high on entertainment and laughs that one doesn’t mind neglecting the loopholes in the narrative

A few scenes truly stand out , chief amongst them are the chase portions in Bangkok. The case unfolds well on screen, and the director have done a great job of keeping your interest alive.. The initial scenes between Fardeen and Vivek before they actually fall in love, and also the duo's interactions with Amrita and Esha bring forth peals of laughter from the audience. However, in the second half of the film, the director infuses drama and seriousness and resorts to fist-fights . This is where the audience, which mistook Pyare Mohan for a comedy finds itself let down.

Technically the film has a slick and glossy look throughout.Camerawork is superb and the locales of Bangkok have been superbly captured. Editing could've been tighter and one feels that the film could've done with a chop to fasten the pace in certain places.

Vivek Oberoi as Mohan is fantastic in a role that is tailormade for him.He gives a flawless account of himself and proves that he is without a doubt one of the most versatile actors we have today. His comic timing is emmaculate right from his delivery to facial expressions and this no doubt rates as one of his finest performance to date.

Fardeen Khan proves his versatility in a outright comic performance which defies stereotype. The actor lets himself go totally loose on screen as Pyare. His facial expressions are simply fantastic and although he goes over-the-top at times he still manages to extract laughter unlimited. His delivery is well done too. The chemistry between Vivek and Fardeen is simply crackling on screen and it is evident both are having a lot of fun which have further enhanced their performances.

Pyare Mohan clearly belongs to Boman Irani, who is with a doubt one of the best comedians we have today and given that he is a villian here -one would expect explosive results-and the results are just that..pure dynamite! He manages to hold his own in a negative Role and delivers a fantastic performance. The actors entry in the movie had the whole auditorium burst out in claps and whistles!

Amrita Rao is good in her part. Although she fails to impress in the first half, its the second half that you start to like her. She grows on you as the film progresses and impresses.

Esha Deol puts a lot of energy into the story with her buoyant portrayal of a wannabe popstar and consolidates the fact that she is here to stay. The girl is simply gorgeous , exudes charm and confidence . She does need to work on her delivery and facial expressions still as she appears raw at times.

Anu Maliks music is keeping in sync with the ambience of the film. All the songs are melodious and have been picturised with style and panache. The title song is shot with slick MTV style precision and the choregraphy is superb. But the best song in the enterprise is 'I love you my angel' which delivers the message of the whole movie too.

One of the major highlight is the dialogues. Boman Irani gets the best lines and are the highlight of the film.

All up

Pyare Mohan isn't a film that will change your life. But it sure as hell will make you smile. Its biggest achievement is that no one, neither the director nor his cast, take the proceeding seriously. The mood of fun just springs out from the screen and grabs you with a viral vigor.
