Safe water for shared accommodation, bachelors, PG

*This product is recommended for bachelors, or people staying in temporary accommodation only as it is less expensive than drinking bottled water which has become very expensive(INR 75 for 30L).

For your family, please get a proper RO filtration device from a reputed company like Eureka Forbes or perhaps Kent. Better safe than sorry.*

Pros:

  1. Low initial investment.

  2. Does not need electricity for filtration.

  3. Has 3 levels of filtration based on scientifically sound principles.

Level 1: Activated charcoal block adsorbs any pesticides, or heavy metal compounds till this block becomes saturated.

Level 2: Iodide Resin technology. Water is made to percolate through a matrix containing fine powder of Iodine resin. This resin is reactive and unstable. When any organic matter in the water(Virus, Bacteria, etc) contacts this matrix, iodine is released at that spot which immediately reacts with it. If that is a germ, it will be killed in level 2.

Level 3: Another stage containing activated charcoal granules. These will adsorb any iodine in the water to sweeten it's taste.

I understand that this is a pretty good, dependable and safe technology.

Cons:

  1. Water tastes slightly bitter. Similar to the taste of water filtered through ZeroB. More charcoal granlues are needed to remove this taste.

  2. After long term use, sediment is visible in the lowermost level which should contain pristine clear water.

  3. Ants creep into all 3 levels due to lack of rubber rings.

  4. Build Quality: Product is Fragile owing to the use of very thin acrylic.

All the cons are due to the desigh and build quality of the product. While the working principles are perfectly sound, cost cutting in the implementation has resulted in lack of silicone rubber rings in between the partitions and other issues.

Bottomline:

The product does what it is designed to do. There are some issues with the build quality of the product. At around INR 1200, this is an OK product targeted at budget conscious people or for situations where you want really low cost of investment such as PG, sharing accommodation, etc.

You get what you pay for, and there is not much variety in this price range.

Other Thoughts:

This is my second Pure It. The first one that I received was a DOA which was leaking from the joint in the acrylic where the tap is. Since I had purchased it from Croma, I took it back there. The manager connected me to the Unilever rep who was quite immature and rude. He insisted on repairing the product while I insisted on getting it replaced since it was defective out of the box. I put him on speakerphone and every customer and sales person in the store could hear him yelling at me.

The manager at Croma simply gave me a replacement device and asked me to bring it back for a refund if that too was defective. Thankfully, it worked.

I do not see this product displayed prominently at Croma anymore.

Honestly, I have no expectations towards after sales service and this product will be junked when it's life runs out.
