I recently purchased Pureit Classic 14L model for Rs 1200. As the product comes from HLL, the first thing is it is easily available with variety of dealers. Through my research I narrowed down on this model as I found it is competitively priced, its filter replacement kit is easily available in market (with same dealer also) and it has a responsive customer service.

I read about issues in finding replacement kits for other storage purifiers from other companies. I hope I do not face issues with the product's auto shut-off feature as other consumers have reported on Mouthshut.

The box is easy to assemble and use. One has to read the instructions carefully to assemble everything in order. However, the build quality and design is average. The three plastic boxes, the top chamber with activated carbon, the middle chamber with germkiller and the bottom transparent chamber with polisher just settles on each other by the design.

There is no fastening among them. As a result, if I fill water to keep all of them full the middle chamber leaks because of water pressure. So I have to watch not to keep the chambers full to 14 L. Lack of fastening means that the small insects might make into the chambers. I doubt that to happen. However, other consumers have reported that.

I have used Aquaguard classic model before. I can draw comparisons between the filtration process with Pureit Classic.

Stage 1 sediment filter: Aquaguard classic has multi-layered thick mesh that is really effective in keeping the mud out. Pureit Classic has single layer mesh that I think can not filter that much.

Stage 2 carbon: This stage is also common in both the purifiers. If water takes equal time going through the pores of the carbon then filtration quality should be same.

Stage 3 Germkill: Here comes the difference. Aquaguard classic uses UV lamp that may kill 99.99% of  microbes. Pureit Classic uses some chemical to kill microbes and a polisher to remove the chemical. My research says UV is more effective. Since Aquaguard cost more than Rs 8000 I can assume it is a better purifier. :)

If the drinking water supply is not very bad in your area then Pureit could be a cost effective choice.
