Situated right on Allepey's back waters, Punnamada resort is like a dream. The resort is designed without disturbing the nature. You will find lush and well manicured greenery everywhere. It has a classic beauty that you hardly find anywhere.
We went to Allepey during April first week and wanted to stay at a good resort and houseboat to make our long trip successful. While driving from Cochi to Allepey we saw a few sign-boards of this resort and though of checking it out. The only problem we faced was, it was extremely difficult to find the place. There was a very narrow dirt path that lead to the resort, without many road signs once you reach Allepey. We wasted at least 1.5 hours in searching for the resort. But once we reached there, it was all worth it.
The reception was unique. There was an idol in the middle of a small cement pool strewn with lotus flowers. The sunlight falling over the statue made it look amazing. All the furniture and arrangement was in fine wood. We struck a deal with the manager and got two pool-side rooms for a day and one day stay in the house boat along with two days of complete breakfast+lunch+dinner. It cost us a total of Rs.24, 000 for all of the above. We were two couples and one kid.
The rooms we got were the best that I'd ever stayed in. The interiors were totally in wood with unique old-time architecture - right from the door knobs, the room key, the room entrance, the bed, the reclining chair, the furnishings, et al. The most awesome part was the bathroom. It was an open air bathroom with plants inside. There were lovely pebbles spread on the ground and the shower was like one waterfall. Taking bath was an experience in itself! The room service and attention to customers was delightful.
The food was fine at the back-waters-side restaurant and although we had taken a package, ample choice was given to us for ordering.
We made use of the activity room too. It had pool table, TT table, billiards table, carom board, chess, cards, books, bicycles, and helpers to help you while you play.
Next day we moved to the houseboat for a complete day ride and night stay. The houseboat was comfortable with AC rooms and Tata Sky TV.
Overall the experience was out of this world and we have decided to go back there whenever we go to Allepey.
