PULIMURUGAN – Some stunt goals for young stars

What do you do when a Mohanlal movie releases in a theatre near you? That was a rhetorical question because answer is obvious enough, you run there to watch that movie. When his peers, look a script that can bring them back, Mohanlal pushes his boundaries and reaches out of his confines to get a much deserved stardom.

Getting script and redefining his position in the film industry every time, with a new film, has become a motto for Mohanlal. What does this movie do? it literally, gives stunt goals to all the young stars and make them run for their money.

Director Vyshakh has fulfilled all the expectations that comes with a Mohanlal movie. After giving some flops and few big hits, this movie will be the major turnover in his film-making career.

The movie is about man-animal conflict, where at the core lies Pulimurugan(Mohanlal). The story is about some village called ‘Pulioore’ that has its land covered with forests as well, making it prone to animal attacks. Whenever a man-eating tiger strides into the village, killing and eating people, they call Pulimurugan. He is a pro when it comes to searching, finding and hunting down a man-eater. This is because he has his own past to fuel this present professional of his.

Pulimurugan’s father was mauled to death by a man-eating tiger, right in front of his eyes when he was a mere kid. His uncle(Lal) and him, later on, kill the tiger that took his father’s life and from then on he continues to do this as a service to others.

The movie doesn’t hover over man-animal conflict too much, and discusses what is right or wrong. Vyshaksh, definitely, knows how to exploit Mohanlal’s stardom to the peak and there are scenes, purposely designed to get claps, whistle and enthral the star’s fans. It is a simple movie, sticking to the goal of entertaining everyone.

The scenes I like the most were tiger hunting scenes, which are the best part of the movie. It seems a lot of efforts and research were done to bring them out to perfection, and good thing is that, they did turn out to be highlight voltage stunts. All thanks to Peter Hein, who is constantly pushing the envelope for better stunt choreography.

Let’s talk about performances, Mohanlal needs no words of praise, because the words aren’t enough and I think I covered that part in the start. Kamalinee Mukherjee has done justice to her role of being nagging and irritating housewife. Lal, is impressive and brings comic relief in the film. Tollywood actor Jagapathi Babu fails to show his talent, or rather there wasn’t much to his role of being antagonist. He only provokes the humble hero to die in the end by his hands soon. But Pulimurugan marks Babu’s debut Malayalam movie.

What I want to say, this movie is your weekend thriller goal. And if you are a hard core Mohanlal fan, then I need not say much.
