Pudhusana p(s)ettai. Review on Pudhupettai Movie

Selvaraghavan(SR) has come clean in this movie. Its a director's movie. Be it the symbolic sunrise marking dhanush's(as Kumar) arrival as a local dada or the tongue-in-cheek dialogues that leave you baffled, SR has made a mark. That too a big one.

I will be real surprised if Pudhupttai doesnt become a hit. Well, I am not telling you the plot. Even if if did, it wudnt affect you as there is so much to watch and cant be put down in words so easily. Its about a small time chap being ruined by his family and becomes a pettai dada. He rises to become a hitman and then a politician. In a line, thats what the movie is about.

I dunno which scenes were shot first, but dhanush seems to have acted the scenes in the second part more maturedly and wonderfully than the initial parts. Sneha has put in her best efforts but looks more good-looking for a prostitute. Sonia aggarwal's shadow and tone would have been more than sufficient for the movie. Yuvan does seem to have made the music sound original, but somehow I feel less convinced about the originality part. 'Oru naalil' seems to be missing. Dunno if I missed it. Arvind krishna has done an amazing job.

There are the shades of godfather,(obviously) nayagan, sin city in the movie. Wonder if they were incidental. The best part of the screenplay is that every scene is unpredictable and the story telling is brilliant and original. SR seems to have carved a space for himself ina grandiose manner close to maniratnam, bala, shankar, KB........

THis movie is a worthwhile watch and a landmark one.Tamil industry is maturing and this movie is one manifestation for that. Its anyday better than heroism of vijay, punch dialogues of ajith, stupid sentimentality stuff from thangar bacchan and so on.

A must watch. And a very,very different and violent movie.
