I read "Princess" for the first time any years ago and it has stuck with me to this day. The story is so shocking and fascinating. Jean Sasson the author tells the true story of Princess Sultana, a Saudi princess that Jean Sasson met and befriend when she lived in the kingdom for more than 12 years.
Although Princess Sultana has jewels, wealth, palaces and furs she does not have one very important thing that money cannot buy her: equality. In her county she lives as a second-class citizen. Although at times it may seem that the princess is resigned to this, the author writes about Sultana's drive and spirit and outspokenness.
It is because of these qualities that I and millions and millions and readers around the world can relate to the princess. Jean Sasson has written 2 other follow-up books to "Princess." "Princes Sultana's Daughters" and "Princess Sultana's Circle." I highly recommend getting the entire "Princess Trilogy."
Jean Sasson has also written a new book titled "Yasmeena's Choice." The book was just published recently, and like "Princess" it also deals with immense adversity. And like "Princess" it is also shocking and fascinating. "Yasmeena's Choice" is about a Lebanese stewardess that was captured in Kuwait during the Gulf War in 1990. Her entire story is so tragic.
I would also highly recommend reading "Yasmeena's Choice" as it is very inspirational. Thank you Jean Sasson for having the courage to write about the truth and for making the world a better place for women, everywhere. You have a lot of courage and strength.
