Prestige Induction Cook Top – Faster, Safer & Cooler.

Induction cooking has been popular in United States & Europe. This technology is beginning to become popular in India. Induction cooking is often referred to as heatless cooking because it does not require an open gas flame or red hot electric coils. Instead, heat is generated by electromagnetic currents in the burners that respond to metal cooking pots and pans.

Last year I purchased Prestige PIC 6.0 induction cook top to solve the irregular LPG cylinder supply problems. It’s a good alternative for gas stoves. This induction cooker cooks faster than the conventional gas stoves & helps to save energy by heating only the cooking vessel and not the air around it. This also minimizes the heat generated and the chances of accidental burns. It even allows controlling the time and temperature required for cooking. There are several other reasons made me to buy the Prestige Induction cook top.

Advantages of Induction Cook Top

Faster:

Cooking on an electric induction range is extremely fast, even faster than gas because energy is directly transferred within the pan metal. Induction cooktops achieve extremely high temperatures in a short period of time. During the cooking process, any adjustments to the heat are precise and almost instantaneous. Induction cook tops heat 25-50 percent faster and distribute heat more evenly than radiant stovetops, and they offer quick, fine temperature adjustment

Safer:

Electric induction Cook Tops are much safer than gas or other electric surfaces, since there is no open flame, red-hot coil or other radiant heat source to ignite fumes or flammable materials. The stovetop stays cool, no burned fingers or hands especially for small children in the home.

Comfort:

Induction Cook Top won’t heat up kitchen. This appeal to home cooks. The induction cooking, energy is supplied directly to the cooking vessel by the magnetic field; thus, almost all of the source energy gets transferred to that vessel. With gas or conventional electric cookers the energy is first converted to heat and only then directed to the cooking vessel with a lot of that heat going to waste heating up the kitchen instead of heating up the food.

Cleaner:

With cooler surface & no open flame to ignite grease, induction cook top is safer and easier to clean than the radiant counterparts.

Cooler:

Traditional gas or electric ranges waste up to half the heat they generate. The waste heats the kitchen instead of the food and contributes massively to structural cooling costs. With an electric induction range, almost no ambient heat is produced, since all the heat is being generated in the pan itself.

Energy Efficient:

Induction cooking is far more energy efficient than gas or traditional electric ranges. As a comparison, 50% of the energy in gas gets used to cook, whereas with induction 85% percent of the energy in the electricity used gets used to cook.  In fact when using an electric induction cooktop, 90% of money spent on energy goes right in the pan, Gas delivers only 50% to the pan and traditional electric about 65% . In addition, when the pan is removed from the induction cooking surface, the induction cooktop immediately goes into standby mode, which uses almost no energy whatsoever.

Disadvantages

Induction cooker top has many advantages such as energy savings, cooking speed, safety and cleaning simplicity; however, they do have a few potential disadvantages.

The biggest disadvantage of induction cooking is induction cooktops require special cookware. Not all stainless steel cookware is compatible with induction cooking. Copper, aluminum or glass cookware will probably not work. Cookware made with ferric metals, or metals that contain iron such as stainless steel or cast iron. Because these metals attract magnets, it activates the magnets within the induction cooker, causing it to heat.

Induction cookwares are little more expensive than gas or electric ranges.

Pans with irregular bottoms & loose fitting handles can vibrate slightly on the glass surface. At high-power settings, lighter-weight lids may occasionally vibrate a bit.

Induction cooktops are efficient, but it's not clear whether they're cheaper to operate than gas or electric, and it's unlikely that energy savings will make up the cost difference because it’s hard to reckon the prices of gas and the price of electricity these days are highly volatile, even relative to one another.

Misconceptions

There is a misconception that induction cookers do not offer sufficient heat. This is not true, this may be due to people using non-ferric cookware, but they are proven to be as powerful as high-end gas ranges.

Another misconception is the belief that induction cook tops cause health issues from radiation, and work similarly to microwaves. It has been disproved, induction cookers use magnets, iron-containing materials and resistive heating to power them, where as microwaves use electromagnetic radiation.

Summing Up

My review on Prestige induction cook top is not about the superiority of induction to any other method of cooking. I have tried to give a balanced review on Induction cook Top. Overall, Prestige PIC 6.0 Induction Cook Top is Energy Efficient, Faster, Safer & Cooler. It Comes in Sleek design, Soft Touch Buttons, Aerodynamic cooling system & great features such as anti-magnetic wall with 7 preset cooking menus makes cooking a pleasing & enjoyable experience. Reasonably priced at Rs 3000.
