Rambhakt “Prem Dilwale” leaves to meet the princes to seek charity for a generous cause. The story revolves around the whole experience till he gets the endowment.

A Sooraj Barjatya movie has to be in the expected lines where you will have to meet a big family, loads of marigold flowers, Ghagra-Chunri-Lehnga, anti-hero within family and painful experience of the lead duo.

I will try to limit the movie experience without revealing the story. In real sense the story cannot be told. It is like crossing a musical garden. A better way to narrate is to bring the pieces one by one.

Let’s take our “Prem” first, I will use “Dilwale” or “Vijay” alternatively alongside Salman Khan. The prince at heart, Vijay is also the prince of Pritampur. Ooh… how can he be then going to seek charity…. well! … Let me leave the story part of the hero here. It is definitely not the Salman of “Maine Pyar Kiya” but after 25 years of MPK he has enough power to pull the movie single handedly and is the real central character. I will tell about it again….

Sonam Kapoor as Maithili at the best looked misfit for the character. Found very artificial and plasticky in her acting. As the princes, probably a Karina Kapoor(Aalia type would be a mismatch with Salman Khan) type female lead could have been a better choice. With such a colorful flick she should have looked more vibrant and gorgeous. No acting needed and she has no scenes to cry too.

Niranjan(Neil Nitin Mukesh) does not have much to do and except the fencing first scene, he is a fade character  without much of sparkling spots. Even this prince was found missing in the main scene at the coronation ceremony with prince and both sisters.

Oooooh… sisters! Two sisters are the main theme of the story but it appears Sooraj Barjatya lost touch with real life while depicting a “Raja Maharaja” story. In a flash back though it appeared little factual about the whole sister-brother story.

Swara Bhaskar is the first sister and has a very impactful character. This “Tanu weds Manu” limited edition girl has comes close second to Salman Khan in terms of the content in the movie. Just for information, I am told that she was the Miranda House classmate of Minissa Lamba. She was impressive and played her(ill threaded) role efficiently. I became emotional too at the scene where she suddenly appears in the royal function. Her first appearance with Maithili(in front of the school) looked very weird though.

I am not an idiot to analyze Diwan Saheb. Come on… its Anupam Kher. Obviously he is cool and has more scene appearance than the hero. He is funny in few scenes including the pool(school day depiction). Arman Kohli tried to find his way to acting with many appearances without actually impacting much. A typical Mohnish Behl could have been an ideal choice.

In the changed days(Remember Sooraj Barjatya’s last movie Vivah in 2006 was not a hit) the director was able to contend the audience in typical “Rajshri” way.

There are 10 songs in the movie. None of them have the ability to rule the chart although every song is matching the plot. Infact you will notice two things after watching the movie:ONE: Are there TEN songs really?:TWO: Is Himesh Reshamiya the music director? The original old "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo"  by Palak Muchhal is good. Title song is making a good hype too. Thank god there is no Himesh song.

The film said to have been made on an estimated budget of 80 crore–100 crore and before it was released, it recovered an estimated 57 crore from its satellite and music rights. The remaining 23 crore will be collected on the first day(my guess).  Mr Barjatya will be smiling to the bank and can plan another release on his 60th birthday. Remember after the release of “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” this movie is also rumored to be released in Pakistan.

As a critic the movie will struggle to get 2.5 star… Don’t expect a “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun” or “Maine Pyar Kiya” kind of magic from this movie but Rajshri is going to justify the buck for the movie.  If you have to take your young sister, old granny alongside your partner. did I say PERFECT?

Love or hate . you can't just miss a family picnic inside a multiplex even if the rating does not go beyond 3.5 stars.
