Any plans of doing MBBS or Post graduation in Gujarat?
Well your search has to begin and end with the Pramukhswami Medical College, Karamsad, Anand.
To begin with the College is fully autonomous and MCIas well as WHO recognised for both MBBS and Post graduation.
The infrastructure is built over a sprawling 135 acres of lush green campus and which in addtion to the Medical college houses the Physiotherapy as well as the Nursing School.
The `state of the art` Hospital with 500 beds is equipped with four major ICU`s and Intermediate Care Units.Each ICU boasts of 12 beds with the latest equipments and systems. In addition, the newly built Cancer centre at the expense of over 26 crores is already drawing patients from as far as Rajasthan inspite of Ahmedabad being closer.In fact the hospital boasts of the best of everything including two CT scans .The MRI is the only thing lacking but plans have already been afoot to get one soon.
Coming back to the College the high standard of teaching and discipline has made it numero uno . All students have to have a minimum of 75% of attendance and a minimum of 40% of marks in the internal examinations so as to be able to appear in the University examinations.The important thing to note is irrespective of the big shot connections the rules are never compromised with.
There are a total of 18 LCD projector systems in the college and all the 16 lecture and seminar rooms are equipped with the same. The wirelss internet and the intranet takes care of the communication within the various departments and outside.
As far as Academics are concerned more emphasis is laid on participatory integrated lectures rather then didactic ones with regular weekly and monthly tests.Almost all students are required to prepare one presentation every four months.No wonder the number of students leaving to the UK and US for higher studies are as high as 40%.
The huge cricket ground and the upcoming Sports activity center makes it virtually the best equipped medical college in all aspects in the whole state.In additon to this the students have already represented the University at the National level in Cricket,Table tennis ,G.KQuiz etc...
English is the medium of teaching and working in community especially in the rural areas is emphasised during MBBs and especially in internship.
As for the fees and admission is concerned presently only students from Gujarat can be admitted and the cut off was 90.2% in the HSC.One of the very few professional colleges with the fees spelt out clearly .No donations or black money can get you a seat.
Unlike many other medical colleges the whole system of admission and fees structure is fully transparent.The fees fixed for the term beginning July 2004 was 2.75 lakhs per year for MBBS and varies for the P.G.courses but transparency in admissions and fee struture is the hallmark of this institute.
There are very few quality medical colleges with committed and dedicated staff in India and P.S.Medical college is one of them and surely ranks very high.
