I normally dont write reviews...Ionly selfishly read them... but after this bitter/pleasant experience, I thought I should write.

A month ago I purchased a Crompton Greaves High Breeze 1400mm Fan from Manas Electric Co in Chickpet, Bangalore. The very first time it was switched on it started to give a grating sound as if something was rubbing inside. This was the very same reason I had changed the earlier fan (which also happened to be a Crompton Greaves).

I took out the warranty card and called Crompton Greaves on the listed numbers. But these numbers land in someones house. I immediately uninstalled the fan and took it back to Manas Electric Co (which is located in some god-forsaken gully in Chickpet) asking for a replacement. They said, it's not their problem and that I should call Crompton Greaves. They gave me a 1800number and said it's now my problem, not theirs.

Anyway crestfallen and tired after going all the way to Chickpet, I call up Crompton Greaves "call centre" and after waiting for like eternity for the IVR to finish, I reached a 'person' who took down my complaint and gave me a docket number.

I patiently wait...and after 2 days a guy calls me up from a Sri Ganesh Service Center to ask for the address (which I had already given the call-center). He then lands up and opens up the fan. He tells me the motor is faulty and that it needs replacement. He says he will come back in 2 days. Following which I wait for a week with no intimation from him.

Again I call the "call-center" and they repeat the same bull-shit saying we will inform blah, blah, blah... I said please Mr. Call-Center fellow kindly give me a number of an ACTUAL Crompton Greaves manager. But they refuse saying I should only contact this Ganesh Service Center. Ok...I take this number and call them and using some guise I get the number of one Mr. Michael who is supposedly the person responsible for Service in Bangalore. I call him and give him an earful. He said he would call back in an hour.

Within 2 hours a person came to my doorstep with a brand new fan and he himself fitted it and checked it. On casual enquiry, he told me that he is Umashankar and that he was the inventory manager of Crompton Greaves. I was zapped with this kind of service. Here was the inventory manager himself fitting the fan as the rest of the staff were off. Service is something we Indians never expect to get and are never given. Even though it was his off-day, yet when his boss Mr. Michael told him about my ranting, he himself came and delivered and fixed the fan and checked it. Kudos. Men like Mr. Michael and Mr. Umashankar are a rare breed in India, I salute them. I hope Crompton rewards men like these.

Moral of the story.... don't buy from inside gullies of Chickpet especially Manas Electric Co, hoping to save some 100 or 200 rupees as this could badly backfire on you. Go to a good reputed shop and find out what is their replacement policy and buy.
