We visited the club Mahindra in Puducherry. For me , a place becomes a tourist place by how locals react to tourists. They are not helpful and dont even speak in a straight face to tourists. None of them speak Hindi. And even if they know English, they would choose to speak in Tamil. Luckily I could understand Tamil a bit. So this is the same attitude you see in Chennai: if you know Tamil, they would entertain you, else go.
I found many tourists we met complain about the same. As such there is nothing in Puducherry to see. Just 1 museum. The toy museum is closed. There is hardly any directions in the street. There are some beaches which are good. So if you are beach loving person and can spend the whole day in beach, this could be the place for you. It's an extremely humid place, when we went it was scorching with heat.
The only place (besides club Mahindra) we loved was Rendezvous French restaurant. We tried a grilled halibut (fish) and it was too good. I would love to taste it again but hate to go to Pondicherry.
Beware: road to Puducherry from Bangalore is horrible filled with potholes. Take train or flight to Chennai.
Will I go again? NO.
